That list has remnants of the pre-crisis '06/'07 fund raising bubble, and most of those "megafunds" have not done well. I think those rankings will change pretty significantly when they come out with this year's update.
I would be surprised if TPG was "still top of the class" this year.
Performance and fund raising are not that strongly intertwined. Fund's performance will start reflecting in the fund raising track record maybe 5 years from now
Top 50 by funds raised from 1 Jan 2008 to 1 Apr 2013:
Should we assume Ares includes funds raised through public issuance? I would pose the same question to other megafunds that are now publicly traded.
Didn't Apollo just raise a $12bn fund? Or has it not closed yet
If GS principal Investment arm is THAT big, why dont people hear more about it in terms of being a megafund or buying up assets like we hear about the other megafunds?
or is this arm not just PE but also securities investing/lending as well?
