BX RE equity culture

Currently in the interview process for a role on Blackstone's REPE team and have 3-5 years of experience at a competitor. Can someone with insight shed some light into their culture? I'm aware that I'll be working super hard / long hours, but was wondering whether anyone had any insights into: how collegial / friendly / cutthroat the culture is, the volume of weekend work as an associate, any other insights. Thanks in advance!

Can someone comment in more granularity around the hours? I.e. is this group (BREP) working 80-90 hour weeks consistently or 90-100 hour weeks consistently? I can’t be the only one that thinks those 10 hours a week make a difference.

Not my firsthand experience but this is what I gauged from someone who worked at bx repe for 3 years as an associate in NYC.

They are obsessive over their placement as "the best company in the best city in the world". They seem to take it to heart and wear the long work hours like a badge of pride. I can't comment on how it must have been like at the office but I did know someone who worked there for 4 years (joined out of school) and he was a super down to earth guy, almost a polar opposite of the first guy I met.

The first guy I met told me "I am always thinking about the investors money, it's my fiduciary duty" when I referenced being on vacation or being away from work / disconnecting from work.

I think your mileage will vary depending on team / city but I'd expect a certain expectation of long work hours and company pride.

Culture isn’t that bad to be honest but it depends on what team you’re going to. I didn’t work at blackstone but I worked at a portco that worked extremely closely with them. We would also often times go out to dinner with the BX team and for drinks as well. All of them were nice asf but they grinded alot. Didn’t seem like they had an abuse or aggressive culture bc every time we went out it was a good vibe. Strong turnover though as most of the juniors I knew left
