Job Search Advice for plebeian nincompoop
Been looking for CRE analyst roles for 5-6 months now to no avail. I've somewhat been struggling to get interviews and don't have internship CRE experience, only about 1.5 yrs at a nonprofit low income housing developer. Goal right now is to work in brokerage or REPE (have BS in real estate from a decent state school) but I'm obviously incompetent & not being picky when trying to still break in.
I have a situation where I have the possibility of joining a $B+ aum developer except the only negative is it is based in my home town where I have lived my whole life and I've been doing everything in my power to leave. Haven't exactly received an offer in writing but they said they've been looking for an analyst for awhile now and have struggled to find someone with the right talent. Said they would be willing to take me on with them but they would need me to commit to the firm for a good amount of time (5-10 years) so they can properly train me. I think it could be a great place to learn, and also development interests me when I have the expendable capital & knowledge to do so... I just don't want to live where I have my whole life. I'm only aiming at 3 T1 cities when applying for analyst roles.
Question is - should I consider this role and jump on this to start my career even if I have to take the L by staying in my home town (5 years is a long fucking time, let alone 10)?
OR should I continue being a dunce and throwing out my resume on LinkedIn 30 times a week and getting no replies or "Thank you for your interest in this position. Your skills look impressive but we have unfortunately decided not to take your application any further." ?
I hope I'm not sounding like a puto but man its hard to not get despondent in the job search when we have an impending recession, thermonuclear warfare, and actual boneheads changing the constitution every time I happen to reluctantly depress myself by watching the news.
I think you answered your question here. You have networked into a decent gig that will propel you to where you want to be. Plus, you don't have to commit to 5-10 years. They probably aren't going to give you golden handcuffs, so why stick around if you find something better in 3 years?
I'd love to move back to my hometown. 11 years gone and I miss it. Too expensive though.
