RE debt to repe

Are MBAs beneficial for REPE or are they more nice but not something really needed? As background: Currently work in on balance sheet cre debt for a larger regional bank. Primarily uw and asset management with a little relationship management responsibility. Ideally in the next 2-3 years would like to move from debt origination to an acquisitions role in REPE.

In Real Estate, I believe an MBA is only valuable if:

  • It's a top 10 program

  • It's in a market you want to be in and currently don't have a lot of relationships in

  • You are making a significant career change (e.g. trying to transition from a local ground up retail developer to working on acquisitions for a large, institutional industrial REIT)

Eh - there's still a good bit of value in a regional/local heavyweight just from the network alone. The U does well in Miami, UNC kills in North Carolina, USC dominates Southern California, etc.
