I work in a research role for a CRE firm. I work with excel to analyze market trends but I do not get much exposure to RE financial concepts and modeling. Looking for a credible course that will give me that exposure.

Consider CCIM - Financial Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate (CI 101)

Introduction to the CCIM Cash Flow Model. Learn to apply the CCIM Cash Flow Model to make your investment decisions based on wise investment fundamentals. Some of the concepts you will explore include IRR, NPV, Cap Rate, Capital Accumulation, and the Annual Growth Rate of Capital.

Good luck!

I wouldn't say REFM courses are fantastic but it's a great resource, no doubt. REFM has tons of material to look at. Kahr Real Estate has his Columbia lectures on Vimeo and Argus and excel courses along with random material. BIWS REIT modeling is OK and you can read the lectures versus listen to them (personal preference).

I just read that your company would pay so REFM, BIWS, Kahr, Realogic , etc all have ARGUS and Excel courses that are good. I prefer Kahr but that was awhile ago. Only REFM has online development and acquisition modeling with course material. BIWS is REIT Modeling. Kahr and Realogic are in person.

MIT has some of their real estate courses online for free but not what you're looking for.

There is also appraisal institute courses that had classes everywhere, webinars, on demand classes. I always wanted to take a construction class from there or Fundamentals of Separating Real Property, Personal Property and Intangible Business Assets. Might not be terrible

To contextualize my statement about REFM classes being fantastic: If you go pour over the free materials and move onto the paid material bootcamps 1-3 and get say 3 other classes on acq and development. Learn how to take them apart and put them together - you are going to be in substantially better excel modeling shape than if left to your own devices cobbling together skills from here and there. For $500-$600, with student pricing, you can make a very solid holistic dent in getting from 0 to 1 in your excel for RE acumen.

This is definitely a good strategy to approach the REFM classes. I took a similar approach and definitely learned alot.

That being said, in-person classes will add an element you can't get from learning online. If you're employer is giving you the time to do an in-person class, I would go that route, whether its through REFM, Khar, etc.

If I buy the REFM classes on my Mac, can I move them over to my PC (or vice-versa) or to other computers/onto an external hard drive? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on these classes and then find out I'm tied to working on them from one computer. Thanks.
