First resume

All, this is my first attempt at a professional resume. I have only worked summer jobs and am looking to land my first finance internship. I realize that it is pretty weak, as i have no experience. However, we all have to start somewhere, right?

What do you think?

Format looks pretty good. Nice GPA. Congrats.

I would just suggest skipping a line between each activity/summer job. It just looks a bit cluttered.

I think that putting "relevant coursework" at the bottom of your credentials for each school would be more aesthetically pleasing, but I might be splitting hairs on that one.

And maybe a quick 3-or-4 word explanation of what the honor society entrance requirements are like: "Alpha sigma honor society awarded to top 10% of economics undergrads". Really, really brief but you do want to give them an idea of what it is.

Solid overall, though.

Very nice first go at it, one of the better ones I've seen for a first try. Not laxing for the Terps? What's up with that ha? Some formatting and rewording stuff could help. Will give you some more in depth feedback later. Let me know if you need any other help on CL or whatev's, gosta help a fellow laxbrah.

Thanks all!

@ stringer, nah man. Thought about walking on but decided to hang up the cleats for a while. They were dirty this year, too bad. Thanks man, CL is next on my list of things to do.

@ray, what part of the community college thing?

looks nice for a first resume - a few pointers:

  • I would delete "Expected Graduation" and just have a date there - in regards to your first college, I would put the dates you were there and no "expected graduation"
  • Make sure your "-" and " -- " are consistent e.g. dec 09-10 and dec 09 -- 10
  • under maralyand, make sure 1st word is parallel i.e. use an verb instead of "as a member"
  • can you be more specific under your experience? instead of your job description, try to show how you added value
  • travelling vs. traveling (interests)

good luck on your internship search!

thanks to all of the help. Here's my revised resume: http://www.razume.com/documents/16939 Also, what do you think about possibly having your resume printed on off white or egg shell paper? Kind of like the scene from American Psycho with the business cards.

Would it be a good way to make it stand out, or just be douchy?

newterpWhat do you think about possibly having this printed on paper that isn't white? like off white or something? kinda like american psycho.

Would it be a good way to make it stand out, or just be douchy?

Honestly, that scene in American psycho is NOT the way things actually are; nobody is going to notice or pay attention to an off white sheet of paper.

Furthermore, like 75% of the time that you're actually passing on your resume to a potential employer, you'll be passing it in the form of a pdf file in an email, in which case if there's a physical copy, it's from the other guy's printer anyway.

Just focus on the substance for now. When you're a BSD you can print your resume on highlighter yellow or hot pink if you want.
