If you're aiming for IBD, S&T, or AM roles in London for the 2026 Summer Analyst cycle and feel your experience is lacking, a modeling course could be a game-changer. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s why and what you should consider:

Why a Modeling Course Could Help:

  1. Bridges the Experience Gap: If you lack hands-on deal or market experience, courses like the WSO Elite Modeling Package or the Modeling & Valuation Bootcamp can demonstrate your technical proficiency to recruiters.
  2. Practical Skills: Courses covering DCF, LBO, M&A, and 3-statement modeling are highly relevant for IBD and AM. For S&T, understanding Excel modeling and valuation techniques can also be a plus.
  3. Resume Boost: Listing a recognized course on your CV signals initiative and a commitment to mastering the technical side of finance.
  4. Interview Prep: Many courses, like the IB Interview Bootcamp, also include technical and behavioral question prep, which is crucial for landing offers.

Recommended Courses:

  • WSO Elite Modeling Package: A comprehensive option with six courses covering everything from Excel to LBOs.
  • Modeling & Valuation Bootcamp (2-Day): Focused on Excel, M&A, DCF, and LBO modeling.
  • Private Equity Master Package: If you’re leaning towards AM or PE, this includes LBO modeling and deal processes.
  • IB Interview Bootcamp (4 Hours): Perfect for brushing up on technical and behavioral questions.

Additional Tips:

  • Leverage Your Strong Uni and Firm Names: Highlight these prominently on your CV, as they can open doors even if your experience feels light.
  • Network Aggressively: Use LinkedIn, alumni networks, and WSO forums to connect with professionals in your target roles.
  • Tailor Your CV: Focus on transferable skills like analytical ability, teamwork, and attention to detail. If you’ve done any coursework or projects related to finance, include them.

In short, a modeling course is definitely worth considering, especially if you pair it with networking and a polished CV. It’s time to “cook” up a killer application, Walter!

Experiences are somewhat underwhelming; an experience from 2022 may not be the best, and only having one other work experience, being a spring insight program, may not be competitive enough. Would try to get a 3rd bullet point for the spring program, and maybe do some sort of project

Thanks for your response. Would something like "networked with x individuals, gaining insight into xyz" be okay? That's pretty much all I've got left to talk about regarding that experience. Also, what kind of projects would you suggest, considering the recruitment process has just begun, meaning I have some, but not heaps of time? Constructing a DCF for a company of interest?

Top Hedge Fund is definitely Citadel

This CV I don't think is an IBD CV but better suited to S&T for a few reasons mainly that you don't any IBD technicals down eg DCFs and the like that I think you require to show you know what you're getting into

Yeah, I've applied to S&T wherever possible, as this is a career path that definitely interests me alongside IBD. I've got at least a month before any actual interviews, so do you reckon it'd be worth doing a course like BIWS/WSP to get the basics down (+ add it to the CV)?

Also, I can neither confirm nor deny Citadel ;)
