Alabama vs Baylor

I’m a high school Senior deciding on a college right now, and I have 1 day to make my choice. My options are between the University of Alabama and Baylor. Both are non targets, both would cost roughly the same amount of money for me, I’ve visited and liked both schools. Alabama has CIMG and IBA which have pretty good placements, Baylor also has an investment banking club which has good placements.

Can anybody who went to either of these schools or know about them speak on their experience?

(Also for reference, goal is NYC but I know both schools don’t send a lot of kids there so I would definitely be happy with Texas. Also open to transferring but preferably not)

I graduated from Baylor and, while a good school, it is extremely limited in terms of IB resources. You mentioned the IB club, which is likely the Angel Network, if I'm not mistaken. If you can work your way into that camp, you'll be in a good spot for Houston IB recruiting but for NYC you'd have to lean heavily on your networking and cold outreach. My route to IB included a post-grad degree but I think you could probably skip that step with a little elbow grease.

The two schools are probably equally as unlikely to give you a leg up in recruiting. To that end, I'd think about what you want your college experience to look like. Baylor on-campus is a pretty closely-knit group and Waco has plenty to offer, but it won't be comparable to an SEC school like Alabama.

Final thought is that this is a good problem to have, choosing between two good schools. Congrats on the acceptances and best of luck.

Thank you! Baylor also has the investment and advisory network, but i will definitely look into the Angel Network too. The one thing with Baylor is I was accepted through Verto Bears, so I would either have to do a year abroad for guaranteed transfer or just go to Alabama and transfer after 1 or 2 semesters. (Baylor has like an 80+ percent transfer acceptance rate so no worries there). But at that point it would honestly probably be better to try to transfer to a better school.

For Texas IB though Baylor seems to have a good alumni network and proximity 👍

If you have an opportunity to do something like study abroad before you start working, I'd encourage you to take that opportunity. Regardless of which school you choose.
