Could no EC get me dinged at HBS/GSB/Wharton if have solid background otherwise?
Here's a high-level overview of my background to level set readers:
- Asian female in mid-20s
- Moved to the U.S. for college and have been here since; grew up abroad (UK, Australia, etc.)
- Went to top 15 undergrad; finance & econ major; 3.95 GPA; graduated Summa + a bunch of honors; also was very active in various student groups
- Did IB out of undergrad for ~1.5 years, then 2 years at MBB, and now < 6 months in at an upper-middle market PE shop
- 760 GMAT
I consider my profile as strong and others in my network including several HBS/Wharton alums have said the same - but as the header suggests, I have no notable extracurriculars to speak to.
I'm not the bookish type or a workaholic by any means, actually quite the opposite - given how demanding my roles have been, I ended up carving out all of my free time to having fun with friends. I do have some regrets looking back, not having done anything very meaningful outside of my professional life - not because of MBA applications but more so for personal enrichment.
As to why I've gone through three different roles pre-MBA, I won't get into that - but was a high performer in every one of my roles. There has been some changes in my personal and professional aspirations that have pushed me to pursue MBA, which wasn't the case when I started my current PE role. I intend to only apply to a targeted set of schools, specifically - HBS, GSB, Wharton and Booth. But feel strongest about HBS and Wharton.
So that's me in a nutshell - would love to get thoughts from folks who've been through the process on how my application might be viewed at those schools.
Thanks in advance!
