EB Target Schools
Didn't manage to find a thread, dedicated to EB target schools list. I have a feeling that it would be nice if we could create a thread, specifically dedicated to EB target schools. Obviously Ivies would be there, however, definitely that's not all. Thanks a lot to everyone who contributes to this thread!!! Best of luck.
All I can add is that EVR goes hard on Georgetown, as the founder graduated from Georgetown; however that is a more or less known fact.
Georgetown isn’t even a target school for EVR. It’s on the semi-target list. They get maybe 2-3 max into NY M&A - more like 1-2. Targets usually get 4-7 spots. EVR target list is Penn, Columbia, NYU, Western, UT, Notre Dame, and Cornell.
Very surprised to hear so... I'll need to think about it deeper, as I may have to choose between UT and GTown. thank you so much for the insight!
why would you say something so definitive like "EVR goes hard on Georgetown . . . more or less known fact" when you aren't working or even in school yet?
That sure is fascinating because a quick linkedin search shows that Evercore has 30 from Georgetown, 28 from UT Austin, 23 from ND, and 16 from Northwestern
I've been on this site for many years, so I am going to put this nonsense to rest. Outside of the ivy league, there are 6 core/typical target schools: Stanford, Duke, Georgetown, NYU Stern, Mich Ross, and UVA. That is the way it is. Everyone else is a semi-target of varying degree.
If you’re still talking EVR, that’s just wrong. I did forget to include Michigan on the target list, but Stanford and Georgetown are semi-targets, and Duke and UVA are considered non-targets (although UVA is a special situation). Georgetown was a target in prior years, but too many summer analysts left for PE so it got downgraded to semi-target. Same situation for UVA with 3/4 interns leaving for PE a couple summers ago, and as a result going from target to a non-target technically (there’s an official internal roster with how schools are designated), but there’s enough presence to still get kids internally referred in.
The EVR non-target situation is weird. If a school isn’t on the target or semi-target list, resumes from that school will not be reviewed - only way in is through networking / an internal push. The EVR non-target list as a result includes schools like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth. People still get into EVR from those schools, but your resume is not going to be randomly picked from the pile; you have to have an in.
the LinkedIn numbers can be deceiving. I’m specifically discussing in the context of NY M&A summer analyst recruitment, which doesn’t factor in the MBA associates who went somewhere for undergrad but only got recruited into EVR through a target MBA program. With UVA, a lot of senior folks and associates who went to UVA for ugrad, then got recruited into EVR via Darden or another MBA program
If you do well and network from any top 30 school, and ideally with a business major, but not necessary, you have a decent chance at getting interviews.
Largely up to the individuals rather than the school from what I’ve seen
Totally agree. I also heard the Indiana University (Kelley) has a strong alumni in Lazard.
Emory has a substantial presence at CVP
Neverh heard about it, but wouldn't be surprised if it turned out so. Thank you!
Emory has very strong EB presence. Used to be the most recruited school at Lazard and among top at PWP not as much now from those but very solid still. Along with those it has a very strong presence at Centerview, Greenhill, Rothschild, Houlihan Lokey and Evercore
Thanks a lot! Makes sense.
Know multiple people in my class at UVA going to Pwp, Evr , Greenhill, Laz, hl
Right, I also know that Jim Donovan (vice chairman of global client coverage at GS) gave many invaluable speeches there... By the way, do you know if he is still doing that, by any chance? Thank you so much again!
You're a high schooler. Just get into the best possible school you can instead of settling for mediocrity.
What's an EB?
“Elite Boutique Investment Bank”, they mainly do restructuring, M&A, etc.
Moelis NYC targets are UPenn, Michigan, UT, and Indiana.
can confirm, and crazy that you can go to harvard or something and still be lumped into non-target recruiting
I am pretty sure the Ivies, NYU, UMich, GTown, and Northwestern are on the list… (correct me if I’m wrong)
Definitely
Generally Georgetown, UVA, Emory, and UT Austin(UT is extremely large so it’s still a pretty small percent) so I would say the first 3 have very high success at EB. Emory has always sent a disproportionate amount of its class to EBs for some reason. Used to not be super strong for BB idk these days though.
