Financial Mathematics vs. Applied Econ
I will soon be applying to graduate programs and was wondering if someone could give me some insight on these two types programs (Financial Engineering/Quantitative Finance and MS in Applied Econ). I am mainly interested in the types of careers/ graduates of each program typically go on to as well as the differences in curriculum between the two. I am studying economics in undergrad with a strong quantitative focus so I will have all of the prerequisites for financial math programs when I graduate in Spring 15. Thanks.
I would do fin engineering/quant fin if you're looking to be a quant
No sure where you are studying, so my answer may not apply to you. As for the quant, based on my conversion with one of the experts in the risk management field, it seems that there are not a lot of opportunities there. Well, that is being said. I am talking about Canada. Not sure if that is the case for other countries.
I would probably try to find a MS Financial Economics program if I do not do Quantitative Finance, just not sure what the job prospects are for people with a Financial Econ Masters degree.
