Immigrant with not so good extracurriculars looking for possiblle TARGET SCHOOLS

So I'm of Indian nationality, and I'm highly interested to get into IB after reading a lot about it, but i got to know about IB very late as i was prepping for some competitive exam (Jee advanced) to get into top target schools of my country, but the problem is no undergrad recruitment for F/O roles occur in IB, as Indian team sizes are very small, only back office roles are available, even from top Indian undergrad schools. So i realized that only way left for me is to look for some target undergrad schools in US. Obviously HYPMS is wayyy out of my league, but are there any potential target schools i can get into With Scholarship (my family income is< $20K) Based on these stats-

a)Only extracurris. i have is 2 silver medals in U-14 age grp. interschool basketball, some abacus courses, 1 medal in high school in some unkown math olympiad (I took PCM for high school)

b)  3.7Gpa in high school

c) Have1500 score in sat

So is there any target i can look forward to, and If you feel that I'm delusional what will you suggest me to do so that i can ultimately achieve my dream of breaking into IB in US

Tldr,- Indian immigrant looking for some tier 2 target schools and general IB related guidance

Pls ignore any grammatical mistakes as this is my first post on internet.

Will be very hard imo considering you’re indian (because of the competition), but bumping this post for visibility

This is 100% facts. Every single one of the Indian males in my EB SA and analyst class went to target schools and are American citizens. The bar for indian/chinese candidates, even for American born ones, is much higher than any other demographic because they tend to be smarter and grind very hard.

U14 Basketball looks great! What are these silver medals in? Is this for the whole of India?

You could try looking at some D3 NESCACs to play basketball there. I'm not sure how recruiting works for internationals (i.e. how much they prioritize Americans). Good options could be Bowdoin or Middlebury; both have several alumni on Wall Street.

Edit: I'm curious if top IIT-Bombay folks can transfer to Singapore or London. Not sure how doable that is without Oxbridge MS.

Very few of them get a chance to transfer to London or new york, once you join post 3 years from the whole analyst class (offshore support team) 2 would go to HK/ 1 london/ 1 NY but still that’s after sticking it out there for 3 years, now even that is rare no one really gets transferred

So if they're transferred, is it like permanent and they settle there (assuming they perform), or they have to come back after some time life 10-15 yrs of work

Sorry it think it will be very tough. Ivy ivy+ and probably even semi target near impossible w your stats. Especially for indian int.

Unless you win some national math or science competition you won’t get the results you’re looking for. Brown in the states have it rough enough

Try low semi target (Kelley etc.) pretty shitty but you can get in and might be able to get something if your grind

Go to ashoka i think they accept SAT and they have on campus recruiting for FO IB/PE or with your SAT you can land BITS, but from there you’ll most likely get BB MO, but the exits are into UMM/MFPE and tier 1 VC’s

Also i know someone who landed IU Kelley with similar stats and ended up going to a EB, you could also land some other semi targets

Thanks for the reply, assuming you are working in US in finance, does BITS have any recognition, or which has ore recognization IIT or BITS??,

tho i'm pretty sure i'm gonna go for bits

Doesn’t matter much, where you work will matter much more

Imo you shouldn’t strike off your plan to go to the US, if not IB S&T, ER, AM all are good options, frankly working in any of these is better than working MO in India which is your best outcome from BITS, you are still in high school intern and explore more, you could always do IB post MBA

If you have enough money, I say come to USA. Apply to a school like IU Kelly/ UF. They aren't targets but will probably land you at a bank somewhere (maybe NYC if you grind) or at least Atlanta, Boston, or Chicago. From there, you can lateral or MBA a few years later. Both have amazing undergrad experiences with A LOT of Indian immigrant students (especially UF) and Indians in general. You won't have much trouble making friends and you will love it.

Also look at schools like Rutgers, University of Maryland. Or even Emory/Williams (these are a bit harder to get into) but more realistic than a UPenn or UMich. Still apply to those though, but don't be too unrealistic.

Have you considered UK or Canadian Targets and semi-targets? There's unfortunately a really low chance of you breaking into IB in the USA just cuz of ur nationality. U can try for low-semis here, but I believe you'd do a lot better in Canada or the UK as US schools & firms aren't kind to Indian internationals.

Because the US citizen talent pool is way bigger. From a company perspective, would you hire an equally talented US citizen who doesn't require the lengthy & costly work visa & permit process or an Indian employee who requires that. It's easier for companies to hire US citizens because of this. American companies dont hire intls until the local talent pool runs out.

Also btw, You shouldn't use your real name for your profile name on here.
