Is the master in accounting at Stern NYU a cash cow?

So I'm looking at this program and searching through LinkedIn, I've found an astonishing big number of graduates dominating big 4 and other audit companies. I'm from Hungary by the way. I'm not all that interested in staying in Europe for now, though I think in the long-term I will return.

I've been interested in Finance and finance related jobs, specifically equity research, I sat for CFA level 2 recently and passed. but I don't think that kind of jobs can ever be reached by international students at the graduate level, which is fair given the fierce competition (unlike Europe).

What do you know or think about this program? Is it a good fit for international student? I was under the impression that it's a cash cow program that's trying to just use the NYU brand, but I checked LinkedIn and was surprised. It would seem like a reasonable compromise for me to get into a b4 firm then do an MBA later. But I'm stressing the issue of being international student

Happy to hear your thoughts

Ah that's nice to know. I think I'm hooked to NYU because the brand and how it should lift me up from the disadvantage of being an international student. Another thing is that I got a little greedy 💀, thought like, maybe if there are finance electives I could leverage the degree to something more finance heavy such as equity research. But also deal advisory on big 4 is still a decent gig short-term

I'm sending my application today. I talked to them and they even granted me a GMAT waiver lmao

Because the brand & cost being relatively low. Vanderbilt's MSF was an option for me but it's expensive, plus the application window will most likely close before I get the GMAT done. I'm open to any other suggestions btw!

The stern undergrad has a bs/ms program that allows kids to get their CPA and masters in accounting in 4 years + a summer. You have to test to get in but the only kids who want to be a CPA intend to work in accounting and they usually all go to the big 4 firms. These kids were a pretty small minority and so I think almost all of them got in if they tried. But there might be a decent degree of these students you are seeing at these firms as well. Either way though I would agree with others in thinking that Sterns masters in accounting program wouldn’t be the best route to ER. I’m currently getting a Masters in Finance and signed an offer in ER coming out of here.
