Hello,
I am looking to apply to HEC MiM, EDHEC MiM Finance, LBS MFA, Bocconi Msc Finance for 2022 entry during Round 3(March). Here's my profile:
Education: Graduated in June 2021. BSc in Economics (1st class) from Russell Group UK Uni (Bristol/Manchester/Nottingham) + year abroad in Australia
Work experience: 3-month internship in IB in Eastern European country (LMM)
Currently working full-time as an ESG Analyst at one of the rating providers (ISS/Morningstar/S&P/MSCI)
Extracurriculars:
-
Consulting at a university club (helped small local businesses)
-
Treasurer in two societies during university
GMAT: currently studying for it, I got a 760 during my first practice test. should be able to get a 700+
How do you see my chances?
Thanks guys. I appreciate any input.

Hi, considering you are applying for round 3 consider having a solid GMAT. Here is what I would say with regards to reputation.
LBS MFA>HEC MiM>>> Bocconi Msc Finance >>>>>>>EDHEC MiM Finance
LBS will be the best option. They have an awesome career service team. Then, I would put HEC even tough it is a 2 year program (if you want to build up some internship experience.
Bocconi is also a multi-year program so if you want more opportunities for internships. I would say EDHEC has a much weaker reputation with regards to the others. I would not go there if you get a good GMAT (wait and apply next year).
Hope it helps!
Hi, thank you for this.
Would you say (considering a strong GMAT), my profile would be good enough for LBS/HEC/Bocconi?
For IB, the Bocconi MFin is more valuable than HEC's MiM.
I would say 720+ for LBS/HEC and 700 for Bocconi (you can get in to Bocconi with less).
I can't help with guessing where you will be accepted but I want to point out something I believe is important.
You are targeting both MiM & Masters in Finance when in reality they are worlds apart.
If I were you, I would seriously think about which one I actually want.
MiM course is quite general, people come from all types of backgrounds, more into partying and living life, and generally target C-suite roles or entrepreneurship.
MFA/MSc Finance people are typically extremely focused on finance career path (e.g. IB > PE/VC or Investment Management). More academic (nerdier) but also with a work hard play hard attitude.
The curriculums are extremely different as well. Consider what you would enjoy studying.
I am simply pointing this out because I believe that when you aren't 100% set on something and you have a different Plan B in your mind, people can sense that uncertainty in your writing/talking. I think that it would be mentally confusing to justify why LBS MFA on Monday and why HEC MiM on Wednesday.
Good luck!
I agree with matching the master to your career goals. One additional item - I believe the HEC MIM can be very finance focused. The M2 year you apply for a specialization which, if accepted, allows you to take basically the same classes as the 1 year MIF. https://www.hec.edu/en/masters-programs/master-in-management/m2-special…
that's a great point, thank you for pointing it out. I didn't know this.
OP has good profile so targeting these schools seems reasonable.
The main difference is that one is 1 year and the other two. I mean if you pick LBS, the career team can help you greatly to find a job. LBS MFA is clearly the best option out of the ones you mentioned :)
Yep, that's why I am applying for MiM at HEC and EDHEC. Both of them have finance specialisations and they give me freedom to do more internships. I also like the business curriculum as I haven't done any business courses at all during university (it was a math-heavy theoretical economics course).
My goal is ER/IB (still figuring it out, but leaning towards ER due to better work-life balance).
I think you'll get call for the ESSEC MSc in Finance program and would suggest you consider that over EDHEC just because of ESSEC's proximity to Paris. Furthermore, if you want to work in Paris a lot of job offers require you to be from HEC, ESSEC or ESCP to apply for a position. As others have mentioned if you want to work in London LBS is your best bet but it is super competitive.
