Need Help Narrowing Down Schools
Hello everyone!
I have been lurking on this forum for a few months now and I was wondering if some of you could help me out a bit.
Academic Stats:
Non-target school, undergraduate degree in finance
GPA: 3.50
GRE Estimate: 780 Math, 740 Verbal, 5.5 Writing
Work Experience:
Summer boutique private equity internship (starting soon)
Part time statistics and economics tutor
I will be applying to Masters in Finance programs over the next months.
I was wondering if I even have a shot at some of these schools and whether or not I should apply to them.
Potential schools I have on my list to apply to:
Vanderbilt Finance
UT Austin Finance
USC Finance
Claremont Finance
Villanova Finance
Duke MMS
Rochester MS Finance
MIT MS Finance
Are you taking the GMAT?
Should I take the GMAT instead of the GRE? I was under the impression that the math section in the GRE is easier compared to the GMAT math and that is why I was going to take the GRE instead because I know these programs place a heavy portion of the decision making process on your math score.
I was always under the impression that the GMAT was a more "legitimate" test for business schools and MS in Finance. Not that the GRE is bad but I think all places accept the GMAT while only some accept the GRE. That's purely hearsay though, I could be completely wrong.
One thing the GMAT would help for though, is if you decide to go back for B school in the next 5 years you won't have to take the test again.
Although most schools accept either test, taking the GRE can raise questions about what you really want to do (for MBA programs at least). I really have no clue for MFin programs though.
Anyone else have some further insight?
You have a shot at each school on your list, I'd probably cut Rochester, then it becomes geography and whether you would be a good fit for a program like the MMS which has a general management focus
