NYU Econ / U Richmond
I am a senior at high school deciding which college to go to. Right now my top choices are NYU Econ under CAS and U Richmond’s business school. I will try to transfer to Stern if I choose NYU but it’s also competitive. Or I will transfer to a target undergrad school (Cornell/Vanderbilt, etc) or go to a target grad school if i go to Richmond cuz it’s easier for a liberal arts college. Which choice will be better at finding an IB job or top consulting job?

Definitely NYU. CAS acceptance was 9% this year...so it’s not like you’re in a bad spot in the slightest. Plus, transferring into a super target (HPYSM) is extremely, extremely difficult
thank you so much! but also that if I go to a grad school in like Columbia or Penn once I get my undergrad degree in Richmond, will I be better off than having an undergrad degree in NYU?
Yes. But, it’d be even better to have NYU undergrad + M7 MBA than Richmond + M7 MBA. NYU is a fantastic school that won’t limit you in any opportunities.
Also think it’s worth it to mention that getting into an M7MBA will definitely be easier from NYU as opposed to Richmond. The opportunity gained from working in the City will give you great work experience that the top grad programs want to see.
NYU. CAS is great, the people are way happier than they are in Stern, and you have access to all of the Stern clubs as a CAS student. Plus, internally transferring to Stern is really not that difficult given that you take the classes they recommend you take for transfers (intro to financial accounting, business statistics, intro econs) and get a high GPA, but you don’t even need to transfer to Stern to place well in IB - I believe that you can attend either all or almost all of the networking events that Stern students can attend, plus you won’t face grade deflation bullshit that Stern students have. NYU is a school with a ridiculous amount of opportunity at your fingertips if you know where to look - make friends with an upperclassman in business once you get here.
Thank you so much for your advice! And would you think that in NYU since the undergrad population and the class size is huge, students won’t be able to absorb as much professional knowledge and maybe suffer from too much peer pressure?
As long as you apply yourself, you'll be fine. Peer pressure exists any top school, hate to say it, but's it's just part of it. Focus on you + your goals and drown out the noise
I also completely agree with the above comment. I’m an NYU Econ student aiming to go into consulting, and im in several of the stern clubs/orgs. The opportunities are definitely all there.
