Oxford PhD Financial Economics

I am very interested in financial economics and wish to go for a PhD. But I'm not sure whether academia is for me and am instead leaning more toward industry or policy as of now. I have been considering the financial economics PhD program at Oxford's Said Business School but am not sure how it compares to the programs at leading American universities. I've heard that for academia it may not be the best choice and that I would be better served enrolling somewhere in the U.S. But how does it compare if I want to go for industry or policy afterward? What is its general reputation in industry?

The very best U.S. programs are way better options than Oxford in large part because the American academic job market is way better, if still very competitive. Tenure track UK professors start at like £35k lol. Not that there isn't crossover (i.e. UK PhDs getting jobs in America), but the odds of getting one of the few good tenure track jobs in America are way higher coming out of a top U.S. program.
