schools where BB recruit that I can transfer to with the following stats for undergrad:
I realize that I probably won't get into a target school. The best I can do will probably be UVa at the College of Arts and Sciences (economics degree) or if I'm very lucky, UVa @ McIntire School of Commerce.
Right now, I'm majoring in quantitative finance at James Madison University. If I only get into the CAS @ UVa, would it still be worthwhile to transfer and get the economics degree?
Assuming that I don't get into UVa, where are some schools that all the BBs recruit @ that I could transfer to with a 3.5-3.8 GPA coming from JMU in Virginia? I'm assuming this school will be in New York and that's fine.
why are you assuming that the school would be in NY? search for a list of consensus 'target schools' and then take that list to a college admissions discussion board. ask the people on that board which ones are the easiest to transfer into, and make sure you specify that at schools like UVa, you're looking at the biz program.
in the meantime, here's my personal opinion:
from what i've heard, of all the top schools in the US, the most transfer-friendly are Northwestern, Cornell (ESPECIALLY certain majors... see http://dpb.cornell.edu/documents/1000156.pdf ), Penn (NOT wharton), Brown (but only if you're a freshman and applying for their spring semester, i think), and Stanford. Princeton takes zero transfers.
my advice? apply everywhere if you really have a 3.5+, even Stanford and Harvard. ECs dont matter much; it's mainly GPA at the transfer level of the admissions game. while you're at it, of course, keep in mind that some state schools that might not seem that tough to get into are actually very selective when it comes to out-of-state transfers (Berkeley is a perfect example of this; they take tons of Cali community college students but don't leave much room for out-of-staters).
[as far as UVa, go for McIntire. IF you can only get into UVa's CAS program, major in math or something. don't do econ because - and this is true at many colleges - people probably will see your economics major as an indicator that you were too dumb to get into McIntire. but to answer your question, nah, you wouldn't be completely fucked if you were a CAS student, because you woudl still be able to connect with UVa alumni. at least you will have gone to the same football games.]

If you're interested in doing Econ and want to get into banking, you should look into NYU (CAS, not stern--stern is nearly impossible to transfer into). Essentially every bank on the street recruits there (with the exception of DB). It would also give you the chance to intern with some MM's in the city.
I am a transfer student to Wharton from UVa. I had a 3.86GPA at UVa and the BEST extracurricular. Still it was hard to transfer.
I think you do not have a good case here. Neither your GPA nor your college are good. Try applying somewhere like NYU (where a lot of people transfer out from) or lower tier schools. I believe that for higher tier schools you will just be wasting your application fee.
