Transfer Options for IB

Hey Monkeys,

Just kind of weighing my options right now and wondering if you guys had any thoughts. I am currently a 2nd sem freshman at a non-target and am looking into transferring. I don't feel the need to transfer in my situation, I know people who have placed and I am enjoying myself but figure I should at least look around a bit to make my odds better. My high school stats were mediocre but have been working to pump my numbers up a bit. Wondering if you guys think this could be enough for T20 or T10-15 liberal arts (Middlebury, Williams etc). Would likely be looking at transferring for fall of next year or spring 2025.

High school stats:

3.9 UW, 4.0 W

1400 SAT

3x National Finalist for a finance org (kinda bullshit but might help a little to mention)

College:

Finance major, 4.00 GPA (expecting to maintain this next sem)

Independent research facilitated by professor relating to certain finance concept (being purposefully vague)

Small remote finance internship over summer

Leadership position in top finance club

Mid 5 figs income from trading (not day trading bullshit)

Expecting either boutique IB / search fund or backup Econ TA position for next semester

Hey there,

Sounds like you're really putting in the effort to make your profile stand out, good on you! Based on the WSO content, transferring to a target school can definitely improve your chances of breaking into investment banking.

Your high school stats are solid, and your college achievements are impressive. Maintaining a 4.00 GPA in finance, conducting independent research, and holding a leadership position in a top finance club are all strong points that can make you an attractive candidate for transfer. Your trading income and potential boutique IB or search fund experience next semester will also add to your profile.

As for your chances at T20 or T10-15 liberal arts schools like Middlebury and Williams, it's hard to say definitively as admissions can be quite unpredictable and holistic. However, your academic achievements and extracurricular involvement should make you a competitive applicant.

Remember, it's not just about getting into a target school, but also about what you do once you're there. Continue to network, maintain your GPA, and seek out relevant internships.

Best of luck with your decision! Keep us updated on your journey.

I transferred from a nontarget to a target (uva/umich) with similar stats and ECs, if you have an articulable reason for wanting to transfer I think you have a decent shot, maybe retake the SAT though
