If you're not looking for a lot of competition, I'd look at private schools. Schools like Michigan and UVA might be solid targets, but there's still a lot of competition and you might be better off at Brown like people said. On the flipside, stay away from UChicago and Princeton.

 

One thing to note is that while some schools are known for grade deflation/inflation, that isn't necessarily true for all departments. e.g. Princeton is a commonly cited example for grade deflation, but their average gpas in the humanities or even social sciences are fairly average (3.5-3.6 range) while the average gpa in natural sciences is somewhat low (3.3)
