CIO/Treasury Desk

I thought it may be useful for people whom have questions about Treasury at at BB, what the desk does, what day to day is like etc. Fire away with all questions!
Hi,
I'm an incoming intern that will be working at a Canadian bank in this division as part of a s&t summer program.
I know there are probably differences in how US/Can banks operate, but can you compare your role to someone on a FI market making desk (hours, comp, stress, etc)? My goal is to eventually end up as a macro trader with my own book. Do you think transitioning from this desk to other desks are possible?

For starters, when I joined the bank as an incoming analyst it was on the fx corp derivative desk in sales. After being on th desk a couple years I realised I wanted to be more on the trading side. I took a lateral move as a TA in commodities both financial and physical and an opportunity arose through my network in CIO/Treasury and to be honest I had no idea what the group did hahaha.
My hours are the same as any desk I am in at 6.45/7.00 and day usually ends around 5/6 if not closing all the firms positions. I work on the short term desk dealing with CP, CCP, ABCP, and FX swaps (desk also does repo). Stress level is still very high because of the size of the balance sheet, and have contact with the CEO, COO, and Treasurer of the firm. As a junior person I've had more senior mgmt visibility in this role vs previous ones.
Comp is lower than an IB S&T role but it's a trade off on what you value and define success as. I like having a work/life balance and enjoy the work I'm doing. We recruit from the standard S&T pool and people have moved into credit, short term trading roles or muni.

If you had to come up with the ultimate metric for measuring street wide balance sheet constraints, what would it be?
I'm a treasury intern concerned about joining a very similar desk for FT, only because of comp. I have a decent shot of landing other desks, but I really like the people on my current desk. I just don't want to get stuck on a desk that doesn't pay as well.
OP mentioned lower comp than IB S&T, but similar hours and stress, but also mentions work/life balance as a pro. What is the pro if cio/treasury desks put in the same hours, manage large amt's of money/stress, but but get less money?
Does anyone have even ballpark numbers for comp? is it realistic to hit 200k by the time you're 30 if I'm helping to trade and start all in around ~$100k? My desk and mentors are very quiet on comp numbers.
