Impact of quant/trading internships on getting future IB summer analyst offer

Freshman here at an ivy interested in IB. Was previously involved in technical areas (computer science/math research roles), and recently became more drawn to IB for various reasons. I'm wondering about how much previous internships in trading help in getting a summer offer in IB, particularly for getting interviews since I assume after that point everything's based on interview performance.

The question was motivated by my search for summer 2024 (sophomore summer) plans; I'm debating between focusing on trying to get trading/quant internships vs sophomore summer IB internships (which seem harder to get as I'm not a diversity candidate). Thoughts? Also, please suggest other internship areas that would be good to explore or any more general advice.

FWIW, this summer I'll be doing quantitative research.
