Trading Multiples and Comparable Company analysis

Is there a difference between Trading Multiples and Comparable Company analysis? For example, when valuing a private company, to my knowledge, not only multiples of listed companies (trading multiples) are used for comparison, but also multiples of other similar private companies.

Is this correct and if so, what do you call this type of multiples (obtained from similar private companies)?
