Why do you want to work in NY so badly? There's a lot of great shops in Toronto you could network into with a 3.2 fine. Really the only people who go straight to NY out of undergrad in Canada are the top top students from Queen/Ivey/McGill and very occasionally, Waterloo. Honestly, you don't really stand a chance unless you secure great internships and have really strong extracurriculars.

Your goal should really be to get into a trading position in Toronto and switch to the company's NY office after a couple years.

A masters degree wouldn't help much in Canada. To get into the top programs they like you to have work experience and even then, it's probably just as hard if not harder to break into S&T out of masters. It's not like Europe where you can use grad school as a re set.

Sort of disagree with the above. First off the people from Udub would not be in the same pool as the Queens/Ivey/McGill kids. To begin typically if you are from Udub you will be competing with kids from US Ivy and top math/science schools while if you go to Queens/Ivey you will be in the other pool competing against the undergrad bschools. Reason being the general rotation programs will maybe come to bschools not Udub. Udub you need to make your own on-campus recruiting and typically you get direct offers to work on a desk you co-op'd on or friend of a desk.

If possible get your GPA to 3.4 level (84% and above). Acturial Science is a fine major focus on one EC or so, but truly the desks you going to interview with from Udub won't care about your ECs .Then you need to start trying to land co-ops on trade desks. NYC/London is pretty tough typically those go to 4 years with already prior internships. But Chicago/Toronto or even west coast desks are possible. A ton of firms who desire math brains recruit at Udub but they also have very crazy interview process, so really comes down to how much you ace interviews.

Grad School path...Again the above is true for the general rotation program. But not so much for structured, exotic or rates desks. Those all look at the major grad programs in Canada, and sometimes they even prefer if you go do a grad program as one of my close friends did before joining a rates desk.

Finally, while DD kids usually get access to everything. Shops like DRW and rates desks give no crap about the DD they want math brains, sometimes the best brains are in DD but sometimes they are in other disciplines.
