What is trading like at ibanks or places like blackrock?

Just out of curiosity, what is trading like at i-banks or places like BlackRock? Is it different from proprietary trading at Jane Street or DRW? Does BlackRock do day trading or is more long-term investing? do they trade derivatives too?

Thanks

somebody:
Trading at blackrock is primarily execution trading. They don't day trade, its mostly long-term/index stuff plus high frequency quant with bgi.

BGI=BArclays Global investors? Please elaborate

I deal a lot with institutional clients like that, but I would most likely never hire a buy-side trader to become a market maker on the sell side. A trader at BR wouldn't make it to PM from internal hiring (unless he/she is fcking brilliant) due to the vast number of potential PMs that would make the jump from one fund to an other.
