Making it big in VC is no longer possible

Why do people go to join VC firms at the junior level when it's mainly a sourcing / DD gig that pays very little carry and a low salary? Moving from the junior ranks to become a GP is becoming more rare. Can anyone share any inspirational career paths in VC that actually made more money than their buyout counterparts?

Hi Associate 2 in IB - Gen, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:

I mean most junior people in VC know that the path to becoming GP is pretty much impossible, but they join the industry for a variety of other reasons. Better work-life balance than traditional PE, interested in early-stage investing, fantastic exit opps to startups of all stages (from garage to unicorn), great experience in the eyes of business school adcoms, high prestige, and many more. Even if the chances of becoming GP are almost 0, VC is still a very attractive path for juniors. You gotta remember, money isn't everything

What types of roles would juniors vcs exit into in a startup?

A lot of different roles: ops, strategy, bizdev, marketing. My favorite position is Chief of Staff because you get to work closely with the C-suite and work on a lot of cool projects (will say it's highly dependent on the startup). If none of those roles interest you, you can just go to Bschool and reset. M7s absolutely love VC experience
