24 years old + CFA lvl 1 + 3.7 GPA in Finance & Accounting...too old for IB?

Hi guys,

Due to personal and familiar reasons related with economic problems I started late the college, however, I've finished a 4 years degree in 3 years.

I was wondering if you are 24 years old with a degree in Finance & Accounting with a decent GPA (3.7) and half year of working experience in Deloitte (internship), from a no-target school and CFA lvl 1...

¿are you too old in order to get a job in Investment banking?

¿Better try to score high in GMAT and try to get into a top MBA?

i know plenty of people who graduated when they were 24 (or something around that) and immediately began FO roles at BBs. The fact that you're already out of college might make it a bit more difficult but i wouldn't lose hope.

how will they know your age until you've received an offer and fill out the background check form? I'm 24 and an analyst did not hurt me any.

its one way or the other: hate me or admire.

you wont get into a top mba with a perfect score if all you have is a 6 month internship, though scoring very high may impress someone

overall, your profile looks more than solid and only a complete fucking idiot would dismiss you as a candidate b/c you are two years older than the typical incoming analyst

i'd suggest utilizing the search function to the max as there are a ton of posts relating to guys in your predicament, you may be able to find some advice which is very pertinent to your situation

outside of that, it is the same story for you as it is for everyone in your position: network your ass off, bang on doors like a complete jackass, reach out to every possible alum from your school, etc and repeat the process until you get some traction

when you're a non-target with good credentials it is only a matter of time until you run into someone in the industry who was once in your position and is willing to give you a leg up

Dude are you kidding me, you're not a grandpa or anything. If you're good then you're good, if you suck then you suck. But don't forget to network.

" Naaah..we're not going to hire this kid he's 24 instead of 21 " doesn't make any sense. At least that's just MY humble 'chimp' opinion.

Good luck

It is definitely not late to the game. If you were in your 30's trying to start out it would be one thing, but not at 24. Like Midas said, you will not be able to do an MBA program for awhile because you have zero work experience. Your best bet is to network a lot. I was 24 or 25 when I started out as an Analyst.
