BlackRock PMG-Fixed Income vs. CS Equity S&T SA

I'm curious about exit opportunities and compensation/career advancement if I were to stay at these firms longer term. In the future, I would stay on the sell side but likely would want to move to a (quanty) hedge fund. Both positions are in NY btw. Between trading and Asset Management, I'm not sure which I'd prefer. Thanks

Fixed Income is a way more interesting asset class than equities...and it will be much better for you if you want to move to a "quanty" hedge fund. I can't comment on the relative strengths of BR was CS though. I have heard that BlackRock PMG is a solid group to be in though. If it's PAG though, definitely go for CS.

PMG and PAG are completely separate groups.. PAG actually falls under blackrock solutions where PMG is it's own umbrella

Congrats on the offers. I had the chance to interview for BlackRock PMG FI SA but unfortunately had to turn it down because at that point it was only a first round and I had a final round the same day. This is actually the first year they are taking SA's and it sounds like a really exciting opportunity. I spoke with a classmate who is starting FT in the group this year and it seemed to him that people stay much longer at BR. It is not the typical two-year rotation and there is more development and longevity there. Also since it is already on the buy side, my guess is that you will have more responsibility and the exit opportunities will be better. Not to downplay CS at all. Good luck.

Not in Fixed Income to my knowledge. This is coming from an MD who is an alum of my school, but I guess he could be wrong

Chris_MarlinYep, in fixed income. More than one actually. I knew some of them personally. They sat with the traders and associate PM's on the trading floor in NY.
So your friends were in trading? How did they like it? I just got a PMG offer. They said they would either put me in trading or research. I'm trying to figure out which role will fits me better. I've heard that as an intern you won't learn much if you were put in trading

Last year, the program was less structured. I was assigned to a desk (global bonds) and had a few different research projects. But I learned the most sitting at different desks and getting different perspectives on whatever project I was doing at the time. ISG meetings are also very informative. PM me if you have more questions.
