Bloomberg Research Exit Opps?

For a while now, I've been highly interested in pursuing a career at Bloomberg in research out of undergrad. What are the exit opportunities like coming out of Bloomberg? Is it respected, not respected? Any advice would be welcome!

Exactly what M&B said. A place for old SS analysts to have their "soft retirement". To be clear, people aren't paying for bloomberg research like a traditional broker. It's included in the subscription.

That being said, if you want to avoid the cut throat nature of banks this might not be the worst option. Bloomberg's office is dope, and they try very hard for a "techy" culture, snacks, drinks, slick look office areas. Idk about exit opps.... You arent going to the buy side after this. Possibly a SS seat than traditional ops from there.

Go all the way

I used to work at Bloomberg but in a different department. I had friends in the research department, though.

The most common exit recently has been sell side ER associate. I’ve heard of a couple (literally a couple) getting buy side related roles, but they stood out by completing the CFA curriculum or worked in a niche industry (biotech). I’ve also heard of consulting (not MBB) or corporate exits like corporate strategy or IR being possible.

I worked on the help desk itself. There’s a lot of variability in talent though, so it’s not like this department is a feeder anywhere.

Without getting into too many details, I networked my way to an ER role by demonstrating that I didn’t need much training on things like modeling and also had some CFA progress. Then I recruited from sell side to buy side by applying to whatever was open and going through recruiters.

The CFA will certainly help if you can pass all 3 levels (and the CFA isn’t a joke), but it’s not a silver bullet to getting hired. It’s more of a tiebreaker if it’s between you and someone else. I would guess that whoever went from Bloomberg Intelligence to the buy side have a very specific skill or coverage set the fund wanted, too.
