Citigroup Buffalo
Anyone have any information at all in terms of office culture, comp etc etc? Similar to DB Jacksonville or GS SLC?
Any chance they move the position into NYC for the right candidate?
Have several years of sell-side ER experience in a similar space. Want to make sure Buffalo wouldn't be a dead end.
Thanks
Citi has a large campus out there. I know they do credit, risk and some other things, not 100% sure about ER though. Not doubting you, just I can't confirm or deny.
Buffalo really should be renamed Bank-alo. M&T is HQ'd there. First Niagara. Citi is big there, BoA, Key, HSBC has massive operations. I'd say a good place to be for 2-3 years. Any more than that and you will want to kill yourself.
Food is good there. Bars open to 4am. Toronto is close. I spent a lot of time there and really love it.
The initial wave of Citi Buffalo associates from 2009/2010 mostly left for better jobs once the economy improved a bit. I've heard they rehired and added more associates in Buffalo, but they don't make any promises on a promotion to NYC.
I don't think it will matter what your experience is if they opening is in Buffalo. Citi knows people don't want to go there but they're doing it to save money. If you need a job then take it while you continue to look elsewhere, but if you have other options then I would probably pass unless you have a connection to Buffalo.
I've talked to an equity research senior associate at Citi who started off in the Buffalo office and recently relocated to the NYC office, so yes there is a chance.
I heard that nightlife is improving as more young people start to move in. Although you have to contend with all the Bills fans.
Nightlife is not that bad in Buffalo. You'll enjoy the fresh air and space!
Citi Buffalo for the first job? (Originally Posted: 04/25/2013)
I had an offer from Citi Buffalo Market Risk department. I searched the forum about Citi Buffalo, and most people said the possibility to move to NYC is small. I also applied for Columbia's math in finance and CMU's MSCF programs, and I am waiting for decisions right now.
Personally, I want to go to NYC so bad. I assume it would be impossible for me to transfer to NYC from the start, right?
option 1: Citi....wait for 1-3 years to transfer or MBA option 2: Say yes to Citi, and wait for grad school ( if I eventually turn down Citi, does it mean I would never get an offer from Citi again?) option 3: Say yes to Citi, and try to find another job within the time constraint( if can't, then Citi) option 4: Go to NYC anyway, waiting for decisions and also finding jobs
From non-target, high GPA; I want to go to B-school after several years. I don't know if the name Citi(Buffalo) would help.
Thank you!!!
If you accept Citi and then go to grad school you will be banned in their HR. I would try option 3 if you won't get accepted to Columbia.
Does Citi Market Risk(Buffalo) look good on resume for MBA application?
