Course Help: Computer Science + Stats or Econometrics

Hi,

I'm going into my second year of university majority in Business/Finance and due to scheduling conflicts if I take stats and comp sci I won't be able to take econometrics. I know econometrics would look better on a resume than stats for business but the reason why I want to take a comp sci course is because I have zero programming knowledge and with banking becoming more digital and data driven I thought it'd be useful to have, plus it may set me apart from other business majors. To give some background the comp sci course deals with with python 2.7. if you have any advice on which would be more useful for recruiting and working in IB I would really appreciate it.

I would probably advise taking econometrics. That class is probably the most important course in economics and will definitely increase your understanding in the area. For software classes, I would advise learning a higher level language first. A good foundation in structured programming will pay dividends in the future.

C++ and Java are two very good languages and will make understanding any other loose language easier. SQL, Excel, Python all come easier afterwards.

Though structured programming courses are fairly difficult so be careful. I would try and figure a way to take all three or maybe take one next semester, but definitely take econometrics as soon as you can.
