It took discipline to get here so I use discipline in my other activities as well. As soon as I go outside of the weight range that I want to be, I take care of it. Exercising has very little to do with staying at a healthy weight, it's like 80-90% caloric intake. Cut out the sour cream, lay off the chips/soda, have a healthy meal sometimes, etc. and you'll be fine.

There is probably some relationship between people with the drive to get into banking, and the drive to stay in shape.

Also, IB schedules make it easier to hit the gym. Most banks have a gym in their building, in my experience, and since you're usually not doing a ton between like 4-7 but can't go home because you'll need to do another turn of comments after your VP/MD leaves, its a good opportunity to work up a sweat real quick.

But mostly I have no idea what you're talking about, I know/knew tons of fat analysts.

There are certainly those that are "out of shape" but I've never seen anyone really fat.

Firstly, I think if you have the drive to get into IB, you have the control to not eat trash 24/7.

Secondly, the people most likely to be overweight in the 21st century are those on the lower end of the socio-economic spectrum. Most analysts come from comfortable backgrounds or are now in the top 10% of earners and have access to proper nutrition and an understanding of quality food products.

Thirdly, there aren't many fat 21-24 year olds....

Controversial

Personally, I got to a point where I don't let myself have excuses anymore to not find the time - I am approaching 30 and becoming more cognizant of my health. So, if I leave the office by 3am, I'll grab a workout. If I'm pumped from the day and had a bunch of coffee, I may even hit the gym if I leave later (earlier).

Last night I left at 4am, went home and had a snack, then was the first person in the gym at 5am - can't skip leg day. Snagged three hours of sleep then got back to the grind. I'll hit the gym for an hour 2-3 times during the week and at least twice on weekends.

I know I'm not normal... guys in the office call me a cyborg - which I take as a an endearing compliment.

So i actually rarely meet an investment banking analyst / associate / VP that is IN shape. Not sure where you’re at but I’m shocked. Everyone I meet is either skin on the bones or had a beer gut.

If you do the right compounding exercises, you can be pretty efficient with your workouts. If you do body weight workouts, you save another 15-30 minutes having to prep and travel to the gym.

With 30 minutes, I can do a pretty good workout with handstand pushups (core & upper body), straddle hold (entire body), and supermans (back and abs), all without any equipment. 45 minutes if I also warm up and do flares (entire body),
