Investment Banking FT Training Program

What does the 4-6 week training program consist of for FT Analysts? Heard it's mainly focused on getting familiar with finance concepts through in-class training (accounting, valuation etc.) along with getting exposure to excel, powerpoint and then wrapping up with FINRA exams.
Could anyone shed some more light on this? Is there any point in me taking an excel/powerpoint course prior to training to get more proficient with these softwares? Or even a finance concepts course to get more familiar with these?

FT training is arguably the most overrated thing in IB. You do like two weeks of TTS/WSP, some days will be allocated as study days for your exam, other days might be with vendors like FactSet or CapIQ. It's pretty rushed and not overly comprehensive, you really learn more from senior analysts and associates over your first 6 months.

Agreed with the post above that training is not very useful. To keep it very simple, you'll spend half of your time prepping to take the SIE, S79, and S63 and the other half on basic valuation/accounting with a vendor like TTS. The in-class training is practically a crash course on accounting and valuation and it's more of a pain to do than practical. Training ends at 5pm or 6pm every day so people will go out and have fun for 4-6 weeks before hitting the desk.

If you want to do some prep then taking a course on Excel and PowerPoint could be helpful so you aren't spending late nights trying to figure out the basics on both once you hit the desk. Everything else you will learn on the job and training is a time to have fun with your fellow Analyst class.

The only thing that matters during training is how much you can outdrink your analyst class after 6pm and still show up the next day in top shape. You'll learn more from getting grilled by your associates and VPs in live deals when first submitting your shitty ppt deliverables and models that training did not prepare you for

Lmao. Not OP but does that mean it might be worth it to do an excel or powerpoint course before or during training? Or studying for any of the series exams before training if ur bank sends u the knopman materials a week before?
