Jefferies Culture
I have searched around on the topic but don’t see anything within the past two years so thought I’d ask. How is the culture at Jefferies? Obviously the hours are long but how are the people and do you like working there? Would you advise working there? I am looking from an analyst or associate’s perspective.
Bump
Very fratty from what my friend says, pretty brutal hours (depends on group) but good dealflow esp healthcare
I've heard it's fratty as well, but the people I know there seem to like it enough to not want to exit or lateral.
Anybody have info on Boston office?
Boston office covers Automotive and Aftermarket only. No other group based out of that office and heard they don’t communicate that often with other offices
I remember when the recruiting team came to my target. It was very well known that they only recruited a few people and they were consistently from the same select fraternities. Everyone from the analysts to the MDs were frat boys who were interested in either talking to you about how crazy their job is or the attractiveness of women who showed up to the event.
I clearly remember one MD spending 10 minutes talking about how many emails he gets a day (100). I was shocked at the time and now find that not that impressive. I'm obviously joking but it was still weird.
Overall though, it's a very work hard, play hard type bank
Would you consider Jefferies one of the frattiest banks on the street?
People on WSO say Jefferies is fratty, but a quick LinkedIn search shows these kids lookin like absolute squids.
Could vary by school
what are some other places known to be fratty?
Morgan Stanley and that’s it.
Honestly never really got the fratty vibe that most people talk about on this site about Jefferies. Really liked all the juniors I ever interacted with there - all seemed like smart, genuine guys. Some of their mid / senior level guys are pretty douchey though.
Definitely can get sweaty from what I've heard.
Can someone pls elaborate what fratty is supposed to mean in terms of culture (I'm non-US)?
I've generally liked the Jefferies folks I've met. I didn't get the fratty vibe, but then I suppose it matters whom you meet.
Social, collegial atmosphere, some messing around after associates and up leave for the night. Of course, you’re working hard as well.
That makes sense, cheers!
Once had a networking call with an alum at Jefferies. Spent an hour dissuading me from IB and told me he has a list of all the banks he'd rather work at hanging up in his room. Stellar guy though
almost everyone from my school that goes there is a jap
That definitely says something.
What is a JAP lol.

It’s a great bank with smart people and all that. But I’ve been warned by friends who work there that the clawback in bonuses creates an awful culture/environment where people that is miserable at work can’t afford quitting.
