Macquarie Cap Pyschometric test

MacCap Pyschometric test.

Do only people that make it past the first round phone interview have to take this test?

The person I spoke with made it seem like everyone who interviewed for the first round has to take it.

jackofalltrades:
everyone takes it. It's not a big deal; it just takes a while...

I got a starbucks gift card and a second round interview out of it!

Hi,

One of my friends cleared the psychometric test and is called in for a face to face interview next week. He already had a face to face before the psychometric. Could you please tell me what to expect in this interview? He is applying for an IT job. You can email me at [email protected]

Thanks in advance, Guna.

Please tell me if this is true

You only take the test if they want you to progress through the process. I would not try to manipulate your answers to the test as several people at the firm have told me that this significantly reduces your chances of passing. Just answer honestly and you should be fine.

It's basically another step in the interview process. Some people get cut after the phone interview before the test, and more get cut after the test to create the final round of candidates who get interviews.

The test is basically the SATs plus a personality test

The IQ-test-like questions are the easy ones. The harder part is the personality-based psychometric exam.

They ask you around 200 questions like "ethics are important to me" or "i prefer to be more accurate than fast", etc. and you answer from strongly agree to strongly disagree.

The thing is, they ask you the same 20 underlying questions, just in different ways. So, for my two examples, maybe 5 minutes later they will ask you "dishonest people should be fired" or "meeting deadlines is important even at the expense of little details."

Sure, if you keep answering honestly then you pass that part of the exam -- you just have to answer in such a way that you're not contradicting yourself. Think about how you would answer those 4 questions above to make sure you're answering the same way for underlying question.

I just got back from my psychometric test and it was basically like the SAT with a personality portion too.. mine only took an hour and a half total, and there were only 50 personality questions, not 200. there was nothing like "dishonest people should be fired", all personality like.. "i like meeting new people" or "i make decisions quickly".

The test usually comes as the "next step" for Macquarie after the first round. The test is more of a formality than anything else and is just ment to "see how you think." I took the test about 3 months ago, it is a timed test with sections much like the SAT or ACT. Some of the sections include: word association, patterns, "cause and effect" problems etc...

@Guna

I had two 2-on-1 interviews that each lasted 45 minutes. First was two MDs and second one was D and VP. It was the "usual" interview -- what interests you about banking, why Mac, etc.

Most important advice: when you tell them why banking and why Mac, make SURE you mention that you want to start your career there.

Macquarie is not the traditional two-year program and then they kick you out; rather, they hire you for the long term.

I made the mistake of talking about exit options after two years and was dinged.

jackofalltrades,

Thanks for your prompt reply. My friend is an experienced candidate (about 5 to 6 years) and is going for a senior position. He has already been through an online skills assessment (technical), a quiz , face to face interview(Technical mostly again), psychometric and this is the next step and hopefully the final one. So we are not sure what else to expect in this one. We are hoping that its mostly behavioral and HR type interviews and not any of their Math type questions (NOT AGAIN) . Just wanted to find out more, from others who have reached this point.

Thanks again for your immediate reply!

Guna

My psychometric test was a disaster... probably got dinged because of it. technical issues got me frustrated and i'm pretty sure i was very inconsistent on the personality questions. they probably think i'm a psycho

lol did you take yours today too? what tech issues are you referring to?

also, there is no way to gauge how you do on the personality test, but i know how you feel- whenever i take those tests i feel like i'm coming across as a sociopath.

I finished the verbal exam and then it gave me a technical error message. I told the exam administrator and showed her but then she X'd out of it of the screen (and i was like WOW). I think if she hit the exit button it would have given me a code to input but basically I got locked out of the verbal test and I had to wait for two hours for the Macquarie assessment team to get back in touch with us on how to start up the test again. Needless to say by that time I was really upset and not in a test-taking mood.

that's funny. my HR lady actually told me about what happened to you before i took my test. how did the math portion go for you? i got flustered by the exchange rate questions b/c i couldn't get my numbers to match the test answers, so i'm positive i missed those 3.

skyblue:
ehh math was ok. Mainly worried about the logic questions at the beginning, didn't get to 3-4 at the end ... wasn't watching the clock

i wouldn't worry about that- the HR lady told me that most people don't finish all the questions for the logic, it was something nuts like 28 questions in 14 minutes, so i don't think they are expecting perfection.

Highly doubt that. I finished all three parts with time to spare and i am never really the smartest guy in the room type of person. The logic questions were really easy if you are in the right mindset. I think I knocked the first 10 out in less than 3 minutes, and it started getting progressively harder but werent terrible either. The math section gave you plenty of time too.. i think it's exactly the same as doing the SAT math section.
