Morgan Stanley Fixed Income Internship Interview
Does anyone have any experience interviewing for the summer internship with Morgan Stanley Fixed Income? What kind of technical questions should I expect? Any general advice? I searched WSO but couldn't find too many relevant threads for the Summer Analyst position. Any help would be really appreciated.
know basic things what is the long bond, duration, relationship between interest rates and bond prices. You're not expected to know everything but definitely know the basics.
I know their fixed income has been torpedoing the firm.

Their rates predictions were almost polar opposite of what actually happened throughout 2010 so it doesn't surprise me if they are a bit jumpy at the moment :)

Has anyone been to their superday? I have one next week for FI...any ideas if it will be mostly fit at this point? No finance background but really want to prepare and do well...

Is it superday right after this?? I need to get back to another offer.... Is MS FID really not worth considering, since the general sentiment is they're not so good in FICC anymore?

Hey guys,
I have a MS Fixed Income S&T Interview coming up really soon and having no background in Sales and Trading I was wondering what kind of interview questions they will ask and resources that I can use to prepare.
What kind of technical questions do they ask? I've searched around in the old threads and haven't really seen much specifically on MS' fixed income interviews. I'm currently reading a book by Fabozzi on Fixed Income, but it's kind of over my head. I don't have the time to do the calculations in the textbook, so I probably only have a superficial understanding of what's going on. Are they looking for a know it all superstar, or is it kind of implied that you will learn on the job.
Oh, and I have some finance and accounting coursework, so maybe they'll grill me a hard. Anything I can do to prepare besides pray they won't ask too many technicals?

can you be more specific? Is this a first round or a second round? full time or internship?
if by phone most likely competency based. but also depends which department ure interviewer from
if you don't have a business background, I wouldn't worry too much about technicals (ie - yield curves, bond pricing, etc). Know whats happening in the markets (should be easy right now), and make sure your mental math is sharp. Reading over previous threads on brain teasers would also help.
This is for a first round interview where they will come to campus.
Got rocked in final rounds with them last year, MD started asking about pricing interest rate options. And I was a poor Engineering major. And some brain teasers. If you do make it to final round, of the 3, one can be very technical (or may be I was one off).

ehh... recent S&T final round interviews have been postponed? I haven't even interviewed first round!! Hope they don't cancel... Jeebus... I should just go work for Wells Fargo S&T, they're doing well.
Firms really need to stop wasting kids' time if they really have no intention of hiring.
if the MD was asking you about interest rate options, he was just trying to see how you performed under pressure, and/or if you had some natural intuition. He wasn't looking for a spot on answer.
technical analysis cannot be taught in a classroom, and it really isn't all about arcane chart patterns. I've never had or asked a question like this in an interview
any update on whether MS is indeed hiring for S&T ?
I've yet to hear from HR regarding rescheduling

Hey everyone, I had my first phone interview a little over two weeks ago with an analyst. I was told the next step would be my Super Day.
I followed up with her a week after the my interview and received a favorable response and was told that a representative from HR will contact me to arrange the next steps.
Has anyone had their Super Day yet and how long did it take for MS to contact you after your first interview.

I have a superday for MS Fixed Income S&T on 2/22. I know they have superdays the prior week as well. I am worried because I know they basically give out offers on a rolling basis until all spots are full. My superday seems pretty late in the cycle right?

Wouldnt worry about it, dont think they would accomodate such a request anyway, unless you say you have somethign that day that you absolutely cannot miss but then you run the risk of getting it pushed back even later.
Don't worry about the rolling basis, MS is expanding a bit aggressively in FI. I went through a superday on 12/3, don't worry that there aren't spots left still. From how many superdays they've had it's clear that they'll take virtually as many people as they like enough to give an offer.
Don't ask for an earlier one, you're not in the accelerated process so there isn't much flexibility, i.e. they won't build it around your schedule since you're not in finals or leaving the country shortly. Do your prep and show up ready to ball.
