MS SA Superday Invite

I had my first round MS SA interview this morning. How long do they usually take to extend superday invites? Do they contact you even if you do not receive an invitation back or do they just leave you hanging typically?

Also, I read that somewhere are 500 resumes are submitted of which 50 are chosen for a first interview of which 10 are invited for superday of which 2-3 are extended offers. That has to be exaggeration, right? If not, I don't think my chances are great, to be honest. The interview went well but I am an Econ-Political Science major with no financial coursework or work experience. Whatever limited technical knowledge I have comes from self-study and that is by far my weak point as far as these interviews go. Any suggestions on what I can do in the short term?

Invites should be given out within a week.

The stats you read are fairly accurate. It also depends on the specific office though regarding how many they will bring in/extend offers to.

In the short term, definitely learn the technicals (finance+accounting, so three financial statements and how they flow together, WACC, etc...). This way, when they ask if you've taken any accounting/finance courses and you say you haven't, but you have self-studied some of the basic material, it'll reflect well on you because you have taken that extra initiative.

Good luck!!

Yeah, I am trying my best to learn as much of that as possible on my own but it's still clearly no match to the students majoring in finance or have spent a summer running financial models which can be disheartening. 2-3 out of 500 is an unfathomably low number, I didn't realize it was THAT competitive/selective - that's even more picky than Harvard/Yale/Princeton admissions, and then you factor in that all of the applicants are from that caliber of school! I'll just try my best and keep you guys updated on if I get a superday callback in the next week or so.

After how many days do you begin to accept that you aren't getting an invite?

I had a MS first round last Monday, got a call Tuesday night inviting me for Superday that Friday. For first round, they had ~60 resumes, 30 got interviews, 7 of those got Superday. None of those 7 have gotten offers yet, but they said two weeks.

Be able to answer: Stating the obvious but have a really really thought out, researched, and rehearsed answer for : Why Banking and Why MS? Also know basic financial concepts. I didn't get grilled on techs too much because I dont have a finance background. Mainly fit for me. Think I have a chance for superday but maybe not...

Do they call you if not or just leave you hanging and after a couple days you know you were rejected? Anybody know?

They called everybody who got rejected as well, I heard. But I really think the questions and whether you get called depend on the interviewer. My interviewer and the other interviewer for our school were really nice - none of the horror stories of IBanking proved to be true with MS.

1st rounds were a good mix on technical and behavioral... just know valuation really well, what banking is, why you want to do ibanking, and as long as you understand WSO/Vault you will be fine.
