sorry man, but i know of three kids that have already moved on to the next round. they usually call you within a few days of you submitting the application. perhaps you should give them a call.

i got a phone interview within a week. did in person interviews already. they do rolling admissions and i've heard of people being offered an internship late, but i think u should get an interview pretty quickly if they're interested.

Guys I have to ask this. I've heard a lot about SEO and its benefits, but how does it actually help in getting you the internship - not fasttrack interviews etc.

Sorry for hijacking this thread

Thanks

Q: Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO)?

A: The SEO Career Program assists underrepresented students by providing admitted candidates with an internship, a network of peers and alums, formal mentorships, and additional training before the intern is set to begin his/her internship.

Q: What are the benefits (compared to a regular BB internship)?

A: SEO has an additional 2 weeks of training, 2 SEO mentors. While in a BB regular internship, you have the network of your peers who are in the same BB, through SEO, you have access to a peer group that stretches across Wall Street.

Q: How does SEO help in getting you an internship?

A: SEO maintains established partnerships with sponsor firms which include the bulge bracket. This is compared to a program like Inroads. SEO provides a placement to the SEO Career Program member, whereas Inroads provides the chance to interview for Inroads participants.

Q: I've applied already and haven't heard back yet...

A: I would follow up and mention your sincere interest in strengthening the SEO Family as opposed to your interest in securing a summer role. I would also apply to other programs if I was eligible, including sophomore rotational programs, to the firms directly, and the various Wall Street scholarships (partial list):

Vision Scholarship - Lehman Brothers Excellence Scholarship - Goldman Sachs Richard B. Fisher Scholarship - Morgan Stanley Douglas L. Paul Scholarship - Credit Suisse Launching Leaders - JPMorgan

Everything blue said is right. I'd add that SEO is really competitive, offering mid- 300 positions with over 4000 applications annually. I'd say as far getting you in the door, SEO offers the biggest advantage to students from non-target schools. A lot of high achieving students from target schools can get internships directly, but if you're from a non-target you probably have a better chance getting in through seo (competitive though it is) than throwing your resume into the heap against all the target candidates.

That's not a guarantee that SEO interns have the offer settled once they start their internship. They have to work just as hard, if not more than the average intern.

Because they represent SEO, there's much responsibility on the candidate to make sure they follow through on their summer commitment.

Got through the phone interview and the in-person interview. Thought there was only 2 rounds but it turns out that this year SEO added a new 3rd follow-up phone interview from an alum in HK.

Can anyone give me some information regarding this new recruitment process? Is the follow-up phone interview the last one for BB in HK?

Also, does anyone know the firms involved with SEO in HK this summer?

Thanks!

As long as it takes to make an informed and fair decision regarding your candidacy. I wouldn't stop at just SEO, but this would go for BB IBD Analyst recruiting as well. Keep in mind that you should also be applying to the firms directly, in order to maximize your chances of securing a spot on Wall Street.

I have a packet and the date that candidates from the first round will be notified by is Jan. 23rd, so its a safe bet to say, the longer you don't hear back, the better. I went through the interview process so far and from what the campus liaison told me, there is only the phone interview and 1 in person.

my buddy still in cornell told me SEO recruits only hispanic and black minorities...they dont take on indians at all..oh well..i helped him get an interview anyways

it does but i hear the proportion is much less than other minorities...because..there are so many indians and there are tons of ibanking opportunities for indians in India, so why take them in the US??

I don't have stats or anything of that sort. I do know several indians who have applied with phenomenal GPAs, SAT scores and essay writing skills from ivy leagues(Although this doesn't matter), and they weren't even offered interviews. They might take one or two indians in a really large pool. All I can say is, if you are an Indian, I hope your SAT scores and essays are out of the world.

yea im in the honors college at baruch and yes bb's recruit there but mainly for operations. only jp and bear have started recruitment for ibd this year. i dunno if i should go the traditional way b/c i think its gonna be harder for me. but it sucks to hear that these brilliant ivy leaguers got rejected. i really wanna do an internship in india this winter at a ibank. i have good credentials (sat's) and most definitely a great gpa by this year. i kno i wanna do ibanking but i dont know how to approach it. can u give me some advice?

Bear and JP are both excellent firms. My suggestion to you is to approach your finance or business professors and ask them for help. Finance professors have amazing contacts, yet very few people approach them. Just read a finance professor's paper and then email him telling him you would like to talk to him about it. That way you build a relationship with the Professor. Once you do that, try and bring the topic of trying to secure an internship and he will work his contacts to your benefit. That is the best way to go about it.

lol thats a great idea b/c our finance chair is indian and loves to talk about cricket. and it just happens that i hv played cricket at natl levels. damn why didnt i think of that before. lol thanks man.
