Sixpackabs v. P90X

I assume there are a good number of people on here who like to workout. Has anyone used either of these two products or have any other products they suggest using?

It seems Sixpackabs is a little more expensive if you want to keep the personal trainer aspect.

I realize most of the stuff they put out there is stuff that I could research on my own and what not, but I just don't have the time and effort to do all that at the moment.

I use P90X on a pretty regular basis and love it. When I began I felt I was in reasonably good shape (working out maybe 3 – 4 times in a given week), but after as little as two weeks (which were extremely difficult) I started to notice pretty significant changes. I started seeing muscles I had never seen before and began losing the fatter parts of my ass and man boobs. I also love it because you can work out in your house, an especially relevant perk for me because I have no desire to walk two blocks to a gym at 5:30 AM in January in Chicago.

If you use it and are disciplined with it you’ll see monster results; the key is the discipline, though.

"Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper’s bell of an approaching looter."

As I travel a lot I just started the Insanity workout, which is similar to P90x. Some would say it's geared more for girls because it has a lot of cardio but I just did the first workout and I'm sore everywhere. I debated between just getting on a running routine (training for a half marathon, later full marathon) and doing 90x or Insanity. I chose insanity because I think you get the most out of your time. Insanity is better for people trying to slim down and build lean muscle, but I've also done (disclaimer: only 6 weeks) p90x and you will be able to build more muscle that way.

I have to agree with you...Insanity is a great program since it requires no additional equipment.

Also, they have a nutrition guide that they include that I would highly recommend that you follow. Really healthy, tasty food that doesn't take too long to make.

Thanks for all the advice guys, anything else? I'm a little worried about doing the pullups on P90X because I don't really have a doorway that I can set up a pull up bar in and then not sure where I could set up the bands to do that either...

I hated the pullups.. If you have free weights I would just do shoulder presses. It's not the same workout, but it gets the job done.

Great! Then you can look like a gym rat with small lats! Only pu**ys hate to do chin ups. You could do pull ups instead. LOL!

Adding to the fact that pull ups target lats and shoulder presses target the anterior deltoid.

Tried P90x - it works. But there's no magic to it. You are doing a high intensity work out for an hour 6x per week. Of course you are going to get in shape.

The "muscle confusion" aspect is largely nonsense. If you lift, you may eventually stall out and need to vary your routine to break a plateau. But that doesn't happen in 3 weeks, and is much less relevant in semi-endurance exercises (which is what p90x is, with some strength training).

Keep in mind that it is not a pleasant workout. You can get 90% of the (aesthetic) results with a reasonable strength training routine, and work out 3x per week for ~45 minutes. P90x is great for people who don't want to bother creating a routine and modifying it as they get stronger. It tells you exactly what to do.

And finally, all training is secondary to diet. You can get reasonably lean with little physical activity if you eat correctly (which is admittedly hard to do in finance). But doing P90x's double program while eating crap will do little to help you.

Insanity>>>P90X. There are no modifications in Insanity...you have to do what they do. It's a real ass kicking, and it's amazing. It makes you want to die if you do it properly.

The no equipment factor is also huge for me too, and it's shorter.

Month 1 of Insanity was created so people wouldn't sue the program for not being able to do Month 2 btw, hahaha.

I'm heading on break in a couple days and want to start back up again with something. I've been working out fairly consistently the past month (3-4 days a week) and starting to see some moderate results. I'm doing mostly weight training (used to do primarily cardio).

I did Insanity over the summer and I only did the first month but still saw pretty good results, lost about 15 pounds. Still have a bit of a belly and want to work on that more.

Should I do a crossfit between insanity (month 2) and p90x? I'd like to build up my muscle/body a little more and idk if I need the hardcore cardio 6x/week that insanity provides, but maybe 2-3 days a week and then focusing on p90x? I've seen programs where people sub out p90x cardio for insanity cardio, I might do something like that.

Main goal is to trim my belly fat and look better in general. Big threat is going to be the holiday eating haha.

These are scams. Just do chin-ups and eat a high protein diet. My brother does both of these and he can eat donuts, pizza, and ice cream and stay at 5% bf at 194! He does eat well over 200 grams of protein a day though. Just don't try the diet if you need to lose fat, or you are not getting enough protein.

I can't post a link, but Google: Inside the Muscles - Best Ab Exercises.

Soros:
The nutrition guide is pretty impossible unless you have $2000 to spend on groceries and a personal chef.

Not true at all. I went to the grocery store last weekend and dropped $150 and I bought about 8 days worth of food. I end up buying everything frozen (meats, cheeses, breads, vegetables, fruits) since it doesn't spoil so I don't waste any food.

Only problem is the time it takes to initially prepare, but once you get in the habit it's not that bad as long as you prepare well in advanced.

currently hitting my a 175gm/day protein target on 9 euros a day, with slow carbs and vegetables.

What's your diet like?

I'm about to switch to a cutting part, but here's my bulking up diet.

Per day, no breakfast (i do 8:16 hour fasting), so all food consumed in an 8 hour window.

2 eggs 16c each,. 2 chicken breasts 161c each, 4 litres of whole milk 59c each, 2 scoops of protein powder, 3000c/2kgs, about 100-150gm of brown rice/pasta 89c / kg, an assortment of vegetables including: onions 89c/2kg, 2 bell peppers (33c each) , and a prepackaged shredded veg bag (total weight 500gm/139c) and 4 greek yoghurts for 129C total). Add in some free cans of diet coke from work, and a little soy sauce. 2 cloves of garlic a day as well. Meal is typically an all in stir fry of the above, twice a day. Prices in european cents.

may I know where can i get a copy of P90x? and does anyone know about the Afterburn effect?
google does, its the effect that repairing your muscle breakdown after non cardio exercise (lifting etc.) burns more calories total. cardio burns more calories during exercise but does very little when the slow twitch muscle is "repaired." Therefore you reignite the same fuel you had to get more output, therefore afterburn.
