The Political Compass
Alright monkeys,
I feel like the number of political discussions on this site has increased fairly noticeably in recent months, so I would be interested to find out how much of an intellectual circle-jerk these discussions really are.
If you are intrigued like I am, go to http://www.politicalcompass.org/ and take the quiz, it's a quick test that plots your beliefs on a 2D matrix of Left/Right economic beliefs and Authoritarian/Libertarian social views.
My hunch is that everyone's results are gonna be pretty similar, but let's see.
Here are mine: http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec…
(BTDubs, go to the print view section after you get your results in order to get a good display link.)
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=2.25&soc=-3.33
Guess I'm more liberal than I thought:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-3.75&soc=-3.90
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=0.50&soc=-5.74
I guess I'm kind of a libertarian nutjob. Who would have thought?
i think idealistically most people are libertarian -- why should the government get involved unless people are hurt otherwise?
Women tend to be pretty authoritarian. They want the government to make them feel safe.
Eh, I think a lot of people, particularly people who aren't to familiar with basic economics principles, have the attitude of see a problem, and think "someone should fix that... I know! the government!" Without really thinking through the possibility of unintended consequences.
No surprises here:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/printablegraph?ec=-5.25&soc=-5.54
Some people feel like life is a chance and they have no control. Others think effort and perseverance will prevail.
Ultimately, libertarian principals should prevail. History has shown that government causes problems, not solves them. Poor and uneducated people rarely listen though.
Notice how liberals and authoritarian are both on the left side. No coincidence.
I'm libertarian and a leftist. I think they mean social libertarian, but whatever.
The questions in that thing were clearly written by some liberal fucktard
My red dot was planted squarely on the x - y intercept.
EDIT: I just thought about it and I would wager a healthy sum that the sentence above has been said at somepoint by an indian person that fell asleep during a math final.
Interesting. I've always had some conservative views, but I've never considered myself a republican or a right winger (I self identify as a democrat / independent). So I was a bit surprised to come out as a solid right winger.

Yeah, I was surprised by how far right I was too, especially considering the fact that I've never really self-identified as a Republican. Socially, I would be considered by most in the Republican party as the quintessential Democratic: I am hard-core anti-creationist, I'm pro-choice, I'm pro-gay rights, I think weed/coke/prostitution should be legal to certain extents, I think Religion needs to keep itself out of public policy, etc. I think the beauty of the chart though is the fact that they split the social issues out of the classic left-right scheme and onto its own axis, ultimately reconciling for me the dissonance of Democratic belief in social-liberties, yet financial/economic restrictions (lol, Fuck Equality!).
If you think about it, your results show that you ARE in fact independent. All your results show is that you lean capitalist, which I'm presuming you would agree with given your participation in this site, and that you are torn between a socially involved state and individual liberties.

Well done my good sir!
I know. I am always shocked when I see how American I am. Feels good to graphically see the correctness and virtue I hold so dear.
Those questions were complete bullshit. Just so everyone knows. Everyone in America should be on the right side of the chart. If you are on the left side I think you need to go to Venezuela and say hello to your ideal, Hugo.
Which is why I'm not the least bit shocked by your results.
I don't like the set up of the quiz.
"If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations." These things are not mutually exclusive nor mutually exhaustive.
"Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races." Does this mean human race? Or Caucasian?
"No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it." I'm proud of my country, but not because I was born here. Immigrants not born here certainly are proud of America.
"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system." Define progress. If progress means freedom, then perhaps. If progress means increased GDP, lower unemployment, etc, than maybe not.
The results are accurate though:

Agreed
Your on the right side, good. George Bush and I will re certify your American-ness.
Continue loving freedom. That is all.

I'm glad, as I pride myself on being centrist.
A similar, but different quiz. Apparently this is the "original"

I don't like this one. There are only 3^10 (three different responses to ten different questions) possible outcomes, which to be honest is far too few to really differentiate people.

Here's my score.

ANT, shut up you smelly hippy. No one loves America more than me, and if they say so, they must hate America. I wake up in the morning and I shave myself with an original GW axe handle. And then I sit on the Obama to do my morning "Constitutional". I don't take shits, I take freedom fudges. The rest of my day is straight up killing godless commies all fucking day long. Then I come home, read up on my bible, catch up on my Limbaugh and then shoot some guns off while rubbing one out to a picture of the Statue of Liberty.
ANT wishes he could be as American as me. You probably even hate brown people, you total poser. Only I hate terrorists more and for real. We should totally put them in a camp or something.
ANT if you are so libertarian how come your social views are more authoritarian than normal? that just makes you straight up conservative, not libertarian.
and if you think the government should mind it's damn business with regard to business/finance, why not the same for social issues like gay marriage and abortion? people should have the right to do what they want as long as it doesn't hurt others, period.
1) The questions were set up to elicit more of the authoritarian view I think.
2) I have repeatedly supported gay unions, pro choice, etc. Look at some of my past posts. I am rather consistent.
3) Monkeysama - I date a brown person. More than happy to have them in this country.
Sorry, if you support Socialism you are not American. They do not mix.
