Where to find recent deals
How can one find out recent deals that were executed in a regional BB office?
Most announcements will tell you what banks advised on the deal, but they dont say XX's SF office or XX's NYoffice.
Any input on how to find that out?
Thanks.
Bloomberg Professional maybe?

edit: nvm, just realized OP asked for specific offices....
How to find out what deals a bank is currently working on or recently completed. (Originally Posted: 08/12/2014)
Hi All, I'm curious if anyone has suggestions on how to quickly determine what deals a bank is currently working on or recently completed. I know some banks will post deals on their website. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Craig
it's all proprietary info before completion, so no way to know (to my knowledge). when my firm gets selected for an IPO, we get all sorts of communication basically saying we can't talk about it. once it's moving along, the names will be on an s1. for transactions that don't have SEC filings, no idea.
If you're in their office you can always ask about tombstones that have recent dates... Another way to approach this is to ask about them in an informational interview, ex what was your favorite deal over the last few years. You can then take that info home and do research on that deal.

I obviously want to do some background research, so I was wondering if anyone knew where to look for this info. Should I just google search it, or is there a better resource?
Try Thomson Reuters Deal Intelligence -- you need to register, but it's free Google news is another way to go. Use the bank's name and either "advisor" or "underwriter". For example --> "Credit Suisse Underwriter" or "Goldman Sachs advisor" You might have to a bit of digging. What industry is it?
Give me company name and industry and i'll get it for you
for thomson reuters deal intelligence, you can only get it registered for free if you are using a company email am i right? because when i tried it, i cant seem to register it unless I have a valid company email address.
college emails should work as well.
tech/media related. Thanks everyone
You need an "edu" address.
If you have access to bloomberg/factset via your school, you can quickly pull up a list of past deals

Thomson One or Bloomberg are great for this if you have access to them through school or something. Other than that you can try googling specific deals you're interested in, like: "Verizon Vodafone advised by" or something along those lines.

Dealbook/DealJournal only tells you one company bought another... I need details!
Would like to know myself.

anyone?
CapIQ would be best if you have access to it.
But other than that (ie, for free) you might just have to look for press releases.
pipeline.thedeal.com usually has some info in the articles
Mergermarket, bloomberg, thomson banker (all paid) For free the best are probably some press releases
look on EDGAR (the SEC website) and read the Def 14A filing.
as far as multiples go, just do some division
Finding recent deals within a specific country? (Originally Posted: 06/08/2012)
All,
I'm working at a boutique this summer. I was tasked to make a list of banks to get in touch with regarding a capital raise. This would seem pretty easy; however, the bank has never dealt with this country before, and is looking for a fresh list.
Does anyone know how, short of scrolling through dealbook, I would be able to find recent deals in a specific country (specifically capital raising)?
Thank you
Maybe you should find something using databases such as Mergermarket or Zephyr
defo mergermarket, maybe even bloomberg
The place I'm at doesn't have access to any of those :\ Anybody CapIQ want to help me out?

I go to a few: http://www.cfo.com/archives/directory.cfm/2984297 and I signed up for the weekly deal update.
http://money.cnn.com/news/deals/mergers/dealchart.html
You can find more through a search of the forum.
great, but how can u know which financial institution that made the transaction?
dealogic - the best resource ever.
What do you mean by made the transaction? If you mean who advised, it's there, just look within each deal, go to the deals section of CFO and check a certain week.
I.e. Week of July 14th, 2008: http://www.cfo.com/article.cfm/11736142/c_2984297/?f=archives

Does anyone know a website where I can search for an investment bank and find their most recent transactions (M&A, IPOs, etc).
Trying to gather some deal history on a boutique I will be meeting with soon. Thanks!
their website??
Bloomberg if you have access to one.
their website is bare bones, no deal information (its a relatively new firm, like 2 yrs old)
Try searching their name in local business journals.
www.synergyweek.com
Just type the name of the company into the homepage search bar and its done!
Just in case you havent found one in the past 2 years ;)

What i wanted to ask you is: during a SA M&A interview I know it’s really important to be knowledgeable about the bank recent and not-so-recent deals.
And i know that the best way to learn the subject is to read specialized press.
But isn’t there a website, or a publication, that lists deals sorted out by bank/company for a certain year? Like a site, aside from generic google, in which i could just type “Morgan Stanley” and get informations on every deal and operation made by the bank that made it to press?
I'm asking not because I'm lazy, but because it would just be more efficient to have all the info clustered by bank. It would even be easier to learn by heart.
So far my experience has been that every bank/m&a house/pe firm has a website and lays out all of its deals that it has done and a few that are currently in the pipeline

I know dealbook, WSJ, etc have articles about various deals...but those don't allow me to find deals only pertaining to a specific bank, as far as I know.
Thomsone ONE Banker -> YTD announced/completed league tables -> Click the bank name -> List of deals
Thank you very much bateman.
Does that require a paid subscription though bateman?
Yeah but your university library/career service will usually provide access to it and other databases like Marketline etc ..
Sucks. I don't have a subscription. Any other website? Thanks much.

I have been following this forum for a long time. I have been asked to look into the details of the Weather Channel buyout by NBC,Bain and Blackstone in mid 2008.
Where can I get some info about the structure/ownership of the deal? I know that the deal was for $3.5B, and that NBC, Bain and Blackstone invested $600MM each ($1.8B), do you guys know where I can get the remainder of the deal? ie: who holds any of the mez/ sub debt?
Any insight would be great. Thanks
SEC Filings
SEC filings, and news wires: Factiva, Reuters, Bloomberg, Capital IQ lists some, not sure if Weather Channel was public or not, but if you put in a ticker in yahoo finance it lists recent news articles (given they are pretty weak sources), search WSJ online, and check out the Weather CHannel web site for press releases.
No but GE should have some 8-ks and press releases given that they own NBC
Loan Connector has all the details.

Unfortunately, I don't have a subscription to CapitalIQ, and Dealbook hasn't been helpful as of yet, so I was curious if you knew of any other free databases/resources I could use to find this information? Thank you
If your school has a Bloomberg terminal - you can use the MA function to pull up league tables and then look through deals.
Not sure if there many public sources which aggregate anything - I would think just some smart googling would be best.
So I found this link I pasted at the bottom (looks like you referenced it) but it doesn't give me specific names of deals - it looks like just a quantitative report on how BB firms are doing in terms of different metrics. Which is useful, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you though I'll try to browse my school databases, that was a smart suggestion

interested as well
Dealbook is not going to be helpful. It is going to be difficult to find without a subscription data source. You could try PeHub by Thomson and go through any stories that have Wells listed.

For example, which company worked on the acquisition deal for Google and DeepMind Technologies?
No advisers publicly listed for that one as far as I can tell. Might have been done in-house. In general, you could just read the DealBook article talking about the deal or look at something like Capital IQ or The Deal if you have those available.
Best way to check is via Thomson Reuters or Mergemetrics.
If you don't have access you might want take a peek through their SEC filings - usually advisors are listed there as well.

If you have access to some sort of deal screen resource (Deallogic, CapIQ, Thomson, etc.) you can screen for recent deals and then view by which banks you want. This will obvisouly pull only deals that are publically disclosed or that the banks submitted to the data source. If not then only website.
Dont ask about a deal that is an industrials deal to a tech banker. It is really annoying when answering questions.

you can screen by the actual bank. you won't see who the deal team was comprised of.
Turned out to be a stupid question. If you go to screening -> transactions there is a tile titled "General Transaction Details" (upper left corner). Within this tile there is a link "Advisors and Fees". Click here to filter for a particular advisor.
Right I can't see who the MD was on the deal.
If you have access to mergermarket you can view some of the individuals on the advising team

Recent Deals - Resource to find list? (Originally Posted: 01/18/2009)
Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had a good resource to find lists of the recent deals completed by different banks. Say I want to know Goldman's biggest deals completed in 2008 (M&A and IPOs even though I know last year was very slow), is there a website where I can easily get that information about a number of different banks?
Thanks.
The best (and free) way I found was going to http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/ and then going through the industry i'm interested in and look at each deal's article. Usually the article talks about the financial advisers at the end.
Not sure where you find things firm specific, but for deal info I use a few:
http://www.cfo.com/archives/directory.cfm/2984297 http://money.cnn.com/news/deals/mergers/dealchart.html
if you have access to dealogic that is a good place to get a list and then just google the deals for news items, press releases and opinions.
Recent M&A deals? (Originally Posted: 06/03/2010)

BBG

I was hoping for a more "readily available" and free option such as on the internet...any ideas?
NYTimes Dealbook - you can search for a particular bank's deals.
Reuters' Deals section is good too
Are you talking about simply typing in the bank's name in the 'search dealbook' bar, or is there a more comprehensive way that I'm not aware of?
Read the M&A articles on dealbook, they'll typically list the advisors. Otherwise just work some google magic.
Google "Firm Name"+"recent transactions"
The google technique doesn't work usually. It works for small shops because they usually post their case studies or tombstones, but for BB it is much harder. How can someone learn about the deals (company specific) before heading to the interview? DealBook and DealPipeline both have very limited search functionalities...
are you still in undergrad? A lot of schools have access to Thomson One Banker through their library, which you can usually access off-campus. FYI it doesn't work well with Firefox, so use Internet Explorer.
also if you want to pm me the bank/industry i can look it up for you
There are some good articles about important recent deals on bsmac . org , take a look at it
Just checked it. legit source, thanks.
Also, it may not be bank specific, but for general transactions, Pillars of Wall Street publishes a deal of the week section that can be helpful.
A bank's current deals (Originally Posted: 08/15/2011)
Hey guys,
I often hear people say that when going into interviews, we should have an idea of the major m&a deals that are going on for that specific bank. Is there an easy way to find current deals for each of the banks? I tried searching but haven't had much luck. Thanks.
isn't this stuff usually confidential when the deals are in progress?
Well they usually get press released at some point, just check out wire services and search for the bank's name.
how much information can one realistically expect to find without actually working on the deal? Aside from deal value, of course
Usually, transaction overviews will provide you the size of the deal and what type of issuance happened. Check out the SEC filings and they'll usually have something regarding the IPO, LBO, Acquisition, Refinancing. It's nice to know what kind of deal took place and what method they used in financing that deal. So during your interview, you could say, "Wow, I was really interested in XYZ company's acquisition of ___. I saw it was financed by issuing abc senior notes, how come they didn't use loans instead etc etc."
Just seem interested and make it known that you did more than just read the headline "XYZ acquires ABC for GHJKmm"
Contacting someone you know that has access to mergermarket is one of the best ways I know to see recent deals a bank advised on in a particular industry/geography.
you can check out mergermarket, I think they are more referring to checking out things like dealbreaker.com, dealbook.com, wsj.com etc.
See what deals are going on in the market. If you read the articles in full, they will usually list what banks participated in the deal towards the end. For example if you check out this article http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/08/10/capital-one-to-buy-hsbcs-u-s-car… you can see MS, Centerview, and Kessler group were working on the deal.
Recent Deals - Recent deal activity from specific banking groups? (Originally Posted: 07/31/2013)
Is there a website that lists all the recent deal activity from a specific banking group (i.e. TMT at Citi)? I've been trying to prep for interviews, and I thought it would be a good idea to know some of the group specific deals the companies have worked on. However, it's kind of hard to find much.
Is this one of those things where you just gotta Google a bunch of keywords and manually compile a list? Or is there some kind of database out there? Unfortunately, I don't have any strong contacts within, so I wont be able to get anything from them.
Thanks in advance.
I'm interested in this as well. I don't have access to Cap IQ or Bloomberg (if they even have this data there?) so I've been trying to find it as well.
http://dealbook.nytimes.com/category/main-topics/mergers-acquisitions/ They list most of the major ones and banks are listed in bottom of the articles.
sorry for this dumb question, but does bloomberg and capiq have more deals shown?
I personally like businesswire. it gives you a thorough breakdown of the deal and gives a more in-depth overview than dealbook does.
For example, search Goldman Sachs and you can see the recent deal that they did on Saks and if other firms were involved:
http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20130729005512/en/Hudson%E2%80%99…
ex- "Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Guggenheim Securities acted as financial advisors..."
This is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks so much!
Thomson has this data as well I believe (your school might have access to this).
Recent Deals & Terms - Help for Interviews (Originally Posted: 10/24/2006)
For everyone interviewing, lets get a general post of the recent deals the big players have done. We can do this by bank, or by groups, etc. I'll start:
HCA (HCA.N) -Largest LBO ever -Announced July 07; FTC antitrust clearance August 06; yet to be completed -Price = $33B = $21.3B offer + $11.7B existing HCA debt -Shareholders offered $51/share = 18% premium over previous day's closing -Buyers: Bain Capital, KKR, ML Global Private Equity, and HCA chief executive Thomas Frist -Structure: $5.3B equity (16%) + $27.7B debt -A bank syndicate led by BofA, Citi Global Markets, JPMC, and ML Capital is arranging the senior debt package -Deal valued at 7.8 times HCA EBITDA = modest compared to recent buyouts with multiples in the teens
this is a great idea. here's my contribution
Some Chinese company -Largest IPO ever -Announced some time this year; may or may not be completed yet -Price = $17B or something like that. Plus or minus $10B to take error into account
wow, that may be the most useless contribution ever.
interviewer: "tell me about a recent/pending deal."
"Uh ok..well there's some chinese company that's going public. wait, maybe it already did go public. im not too sure. i think its going for around $17b, or maybe $27b or maybe $7b..im not too sure. but yeah, i read about that bad boy in the WSJ."
Hi guys, new to this forum.
To search M&A deals, go in Bloomberg (the terminal) and type the "MA" command. You can filter by country, industry, deal value, advisor, etc. Great tool for learning about deals the bank / group you are interviewing with has completed recently.
prospie - you are referring to ICBC (imperial chinese bank of commerce or something) and i think it's more like 22 billion
Yea and before (June 2006) that was the Bank of China at 13.4B
10 out of 10
ICBC stands for Industrial and Commercial Bank of China
mike, it was tongue in cheek. But hey, i at least give you credit for noticing, unlike the rest
Considering the fundamentals behind HCA, 7.8x ebitda is not modest. BofA has its work cut out for it trying to move the paper. This phase is by no means complete. If you want to be an expert on HCA, the sponsors filed their slides (all 150 of them) with the SEC, just go to EDGAR and pull them down.
Get an online subscription to WSJ (it's cheap and you can pay monthly), and just search for a big universal firm that does a lot of deals (like Citigroup). You'll be able to find a bunch of deals that way. In my interviews, I was never asked to talk about a specific recent deal, I was always just asked to talk about "a recent deal" that I'd read about. After finding a few deals that interest you, just google the deals for even more info (you will never need to talk extremely extensively about a deal - the interviewer just wants to see that you're reading the financial press and know what's going on somewhat in the industry).
HCA is no longer largest LBO ever...... Blackstone bought out Equity Office for $36b !
Free Scale Semiconductor LBO by TPG, Permira funds, Carlyle.
Anardarko's acquisition of Kerr-Mcgee/Western Gas.
Kinder Morgan's Leveraged Buyout.
Hertz post-LBO IPO.
You can research the deal structures via google.
