Given that Evercore is a successful global firm, finance professionals try to secure a position working with them. However, there are reports that the interview process is difficult to get through, and several reasons exist for this.
The positions that Evercore hires for are fairly common. But, the firm's salary ranges make the hiring process selective and competitive.
Evercore’s interview process is fairly standard, but some challenges come up during the process. This article will discuss the interview process at the company and provide a few helpful tips for getting through the process.
Additionally, there will be some examples of questions and answers that have been asked at Evercore as provided by WSO users.
Usually, Evercore asks more technical questions than behavioral ones. You can, however, expect to be asked behavioral questions about your background. Here are some examples:
- Tell me about yourself.
- Walk me through your resumé.
- Why are you interested in pursuing a career in finance?
- Tell me about an achievement that isn’t listed on your resumé.
- Tell me more about your previous experience at [insert company].
These questions may seem simple, but they require much thought since they give the interviewer insight into who you are.
In addition to the behavioral questions mentioned above, Evercore often asks some market estimation questions and brainteasers. While there is no way to prepare for these questions, there are a few things you can do:
- First, take a moment to consider what the question is asking carefully.
- Then, ask questions if you need to.
- Use a pencil and paper if you have to (especially for math-related questions)
Helpful Tips
While studying and preparing for the interview questions are important, there are some behavioral things you can do to succeed.
In addition to the questions and answers shared above, here are some notable pieces of advice from WSO users:
- It is suggested that you deeply research a topic or two on the economy.
- Be ready for variations on basic interview questions that make you think on your feet.
- “Pitch me a stock” is a common question, so be sure to have a pitch ready if you’re asked.
- If you don’t have a finance background, be prepared to explain why you want to pursue a career in investment banking. In fact, be prepared for this question regardless of your background.
- It would be helpful if you could network before the interview. Having someone who you know at the company is a huge perk. Also, networking is a great way to learn more about the firm's ins and outs.
- Ask questions, especially at the end of your interview.
- Go through your school’s alumni network. There’s a chance that someone who worked at the firm you’re applying to attended your school. And just like that, you have a connection.
- Follow the news in the days leading up to your interview. Your interviewer may ask you to share an interesting story you read or saw on the news.
