ER to PB?

Looking to make a transition from equity research (been at a BB for the last 3 years) into AM, and trying to learn a bit more about Private Banking. Long story short - getting worked pretty hard in ER and looking for something chiller while still staying on top of markets

Is this a transition you've seen before, is the single security skillset attractive for recruiting into PB, and any advice/anecdotes in general? Greatly appreciate the help.

Shouldn’t be a hard transition. At most firms the single security skills you’ve got won’t help you much but it could at the right place that cares about that stuff.

Worked in UHNW RIA world for 5 years and we took people from lots of different backgrounds. Interest/ability to speak to the markets and a desire to work with clients was basically the required skillset. ER wouldn’t necessarily have helped you at my prior firm but having a good finance background like that generally would.

Would just network with firms you’re interested in (personally would recommend independent RIAs over PBs) and see who’s hiring. All going to come down to your pitch for why you want to make the change.
