McKinsey Referral System

Hey all,

Does having multiple referrals at McKinsey make a difference for an application (As opposed to only 1 referral)? I've gotten mixed feedback from different people in the firm and want to know whether it's useless to have 3/4/5 referrals as opposed to only 1.

Not asking about Bain and BCG, just McKinsey.

Context: I'm at a non-target and networked like an animal since last September, I've built great relationships within the firm and have multiple analysts/senior analysts willing to submit a referral.

I was told that only the most senior referral matters, and it doesn't make a difference whether you have 1 or 4.

Appreciate any insight, especially if you work in HR or talent attraction.

Thanks!

In my experience this truly carries zero weight - when I applied for the summer internship I had a senior partner referral and push from my school's recruiting BAs and I straight up did not get an invite. And then a year later I applied for the full time I got an interview.
