How does fixed-income networking work

Hello,

Context: Non-Target Rising Junior - No IB/Finance Background

I'm interested in learning more about the fixed-income space primarily corporate bonds HY or IG. I'm currently reading Fabozzi's fixed income handbook and listening to credit podcasts, but I would like to learn more about the process and type of work that they do that allows fixed-income returns to be so stable.

However, I'm finding problems coming up with questions that go beyond what I could find/search up on Google. I feel as if I'm limited to their thoughts on interest rates, thoughts on credit spreads, or geopolitical tensions. I would like to ask more insightful questions to understand their experience better.

Any guidance or general advice would help, thanks!

A question I like to ask is: what kind of securities are you selling/marketing/underwriting (depending on their role) lately and how has that changed in the last few years and how do you see it changing going forward?

alternatively - What changes have you noticed in INDUSTRY over the last 5-10 years and do you think that will continue going forward?

There has been a lot of change in how companies are financing themselves. At any given desk, at any given firm, they may be doing a lot of PC, HY, convertible, ABF, they may be working a lot with the LevFin group, basically doing road shows for syndicated loans, could be financing related to recaps, private placements... literally anything. There are a billion different ways to borrow and every person you talk to is going to be dealing with something different.
