Point72 modelling test + cognitive test next week
Hello everyone!
Can I please check if anyone has done Point72's modelling test and/or cognitive test recently?
Wrt to the modelling test, I'm expecting a 45min 3-statement modelling test, but would be great to know any insights.
Wrt to the cognitive test, does anyone know if the provider is Wonderlic?
Any other general tips are welcomed.
Many thanks in advance!
Cognitive test provider is Wonderlic. It's 8 min. If you take the practice one online, it should prep you well enough.
The modeling test requires basic financial statement forecasting for 3 statements. It gives you historical data and drivers and you calculate line items from those.
Thank you very much! One quick follow-up question on the cognitive test: do you remember if the test questions that require you to know stuff like inch to cm, pounds to kg? I read online some versions of the Wonderlic do
Did you do interviews as well? I have now received an invitation for a 45min interview with a senior analyst. Any particular focus (i.e. fit/motivational, brain teasers, stock pitch)? Wrt the pitch, do you how long / detailed they expect it to be? Any other general tips?
You’ll be fine. The practice wonderlics I took were more difficult than the real deal (taken a few for jobs incl p72).
Are you a sector specialist? If so, you should be prepared to talk at length about the sector - trends, companies, etc. If not then you prob need to be able to discuss the broader market, what you’re excited about, etc and then for sure have a pitch in either case. Doesn’t need to be super long, just make sure if it’s a relatively consensus pick that you’re not just giving a consensus answer. It’s not bad to be line with the sell-side but make sure you understand both sides of the argument and don’t just parrot talking points.
Very helpful, thank you!
I'm a FIG banker in a BB interviewing for an Industrials position in P72. I assume my pitche(s) should be of Industrals companies, correct?
Ya, I would def have a relevant pitch or two ready but I’d prob ask you for a FIG pitch too tbh. Given you’re coming from a less relevant group and joining a pseudo-generalist one (industrials can be soooo broad if you rope in chems, mats, etc), I’d want to see at least these two things - 1) do you understand the space you currently cover/can you communicate that in 10 minutes and 2) can you learn about a new sector fast enough so that we can have a 10-15 min intelligent convo and chat ideas. The first tells me you have some amount of EQ and can condense big picture ideas for quick consumption (likely how you’ll communicate with your pm) and the second demonstrates some ability to do the job.
on pitch quality, given you’re an aso per your profile and therefore have min 3 years experience, I’d probably expect at least a borderline actionable fig pitch. Assuming you’ve been a banker in that space for a bit, you should have real ideas imo. For the industrials pitch, I’d just want something thoughtful - you understand the basic drivers of [subsector], know the co’s and understand how your co fits in and will out/under perform. Bonus if you come up with a decent pair.
Hi! So I have now done a few interviews with analysts and PM and they went well – your tips were really helpful!
I was just invited to do their 7 day case study and I wanted to ask if you had any tips and suggestions? I wonder what is the structure, how long people actually spend on it, how detailed they expect your model to be, what sort of valuation methodologies other than DCF, etc.
Many thanks in advance!
Bump
Can you share details on how the model was? A simple 3-statement with how many years to forecast? Did you have to compute basic metrics (ROE, ROA, etc.)?
Simple 3 statement model indeed. I had to forecast the next 5 years. They had most of the assumptions there, just add to roll fwd the model, compute a lot of ratios (ROE, ROA, Cash Conversion Cycle). 45min to do it.
Thanks! Hope you got a final offer out of the process
Hey - mind letting me know more specifically what the 3-statement 45min model test was about? Was it in XLS? Was it online? Did they ask you to forecast P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow and link them all together? Or what was that all about? Sorry to pester but I have to take the test soon!
Hi guys - I have the modelling test this week. Would you be able to share additional info on that? Do they only provide the model incl. drivers or do they provide annual reports as well?
Anything we should be careful about / any recommendation?
Hope it went well for you!
How was it eventually? Any specific detail you can share if you don't mind?

Hi there, I am having the same combo, 45min test +cognitive 8minutes. Any insights? Hard parts? Thank you!!!
I think its the easiest step in the process. No need to sweat it.
