2024 FT
Anyone else still without placement for FT 2024? 15-20 networking calls a week and doing everything possible but there is just no room for shops to take headcount. And if there is a posting 95% of the time it’s a shop looking for 1-2+ years of full time experience. For reference I have had 3 past internships (L/S Equity, P/E, and S&T), 3.85 GPA, President of Campus investment group etc. Any advice? Thanks
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's clear that the job market, especially in high finance, can be incredibly competitive and sometimes unforgiving. Your situation, while challenging, is not unique, and many have navigated similar waters. Here are some strategies that could potentially enhance your approach:
Expand Your Network Beyond Calls: While networking calls are crucial, try to diversify your networking strategies. Attend industry conferences, seminars, and virtual webinars where you can interact with professionals. Sometimes, making a connection in a more informal or different setting can leave a lasting impression.
Leverage Alumni Networks: If you haven't already, dive deeper into your university's alumni network. Alumni often want to help graduates from their alma mater, and this connection can give you an edge. Use LinkedIn to find alumni in your desired field and reach out with personalized messages.
Consider Smaller Firms and Startups: While the allure of big names is strong, smaller firms and startups can offer significant growth opportunities and responsibilities early in your career. These experiences can be incredibly valuable and can pave the way to larger firms in the future.
Showcase Your Skills in a Personal Project: Given your background in L/S Equity, P/E, and S&T, consider starting a personal project that showcases your skills. This could be a detailed market analysis, an investment thesis, or even a financial blog. This not only demonstrates your passion and initiative but also gives you something unique to discuss in interviews.
Seek Feedback and Refine Your Approach: After each networking call or interview, politely ask for feedback. This can provide insights into areas you may need to improve, whether it's your communication skills, technical knowledge, or how you're presenting your experiences.
Stay Positive and Persistent: The job search can be a marathon, not a sprint. It's essential to maintain a positive outlook and resilience. Your determination and attitude can be just as important as your qualifications.
Remember, every rejection is a step closer to the right opportunity. Keep refining your approach, expanding your network, and staying informed about industry trends. Your dedication and hard work will pay off.

in the same spot. Had a IB internship but did not get a offer due to headcount reasons. Have had lots of networking calls but not able to land anything. Really rough spot right now with the market.

Had a couple of interviews but given its usually like 100s of applicants for 1 spot also seem to not be able to land anything. You aren't alone.
