3.4 GPA from semi-target

Hey guys, I'm in the midst of the recruiting season and want to know my chances of landing first round interviews. I am a junior from a semi-target (think top 25) business school and have a 3.4 GPA. I know the GPA is low but I have 2 bulge bracket internships (one off-cycle summer intenship under the capital markets division, and one as a summer analyst under sales & trading). I am very involved in school and have been networking pretty hard. How do I stand in the recruiting process for an IBD SA position at a BB/MM?EliteBoutique?

I'm messing with you.

I echo @"localhero"'s sentiments. You're in a great position

I think he was joking. Don't emphasize the 3.4 and emphasize the internship experience? I'm in the same boat as you, minus the BB internships, and a 3.6 GPA, but I would have to say that you're in a better position than I am considering that I don't go to a target, let alone a semi-target. However, I have an interview with a BB for a FT position later this week, and that was from networking.

That's a relief. I also started a fall analyst position this semester at a boutique IB to lean more about the M&A scene. Would that help as well? I have a lot of work experience but my GPA is too low.

Not sure if trolling at this point, but here goes nothing:

Bro, let me put this bluntly. You're golden. Keep up the networking and don't focus too much on success stories and any other "normal" routes to IB and set plans and guidelines. Nothing goes according to plan, just get your name out there and be likable and confident.

You have the experience, the school name (and presumably the alumni considering a semi-target), and are in a better position than 99% of the people on here. I would kill for your experience, so put it to good use and network.

You'll be fine if you network hard and keep your options open. Having 2 internships at your age is really solid and while the GPA is low, I would think of how you're going to spin it,3.4 isn't terrible especially if its on an upward trend and you could graduate with something higher.

Make sure you focus on your fit questions and telling a good story and you should be solid.
