Advice for Target School Engineering Grad only offer in Commercial Banking???
Hello,
I'm a target school engineering grad who just finished a bachelors in chemical engineering (first bachelors was mathematics). I didn't get on ib interviews fast enough junior year, so my internships have been in financial research in the technology/petrochem sector (have one publication and one patent, but no notable company names).
I didn't receive any IB interviews this (senior) year, but several from small commercial banks, of which one extended a fulltime offer in wealth management. I am concerned about exit opportunities.
I also have a few temp "scientist" position offers which offer little to no growth potential, and that's the best I could get because my target industry - petrochemicals, is not active right now.
I would like to transition into the FSI, and work in investing, but I don't know how this can be possible at this point, even though I went to a target school.
I have the luxury to delay starting work for a few months, so I must decide whether to accept this offer in the commercial bank. I have about a month to decide.
One of my friends suggested working at the commercial bank and then applying for an MSF at another M7 as a way to rebrand myself, but I'm very stressed about this first job and where ELSE I should apply as backup...
Any advice highly appreciated ~
I am also at a BB in their commercial bank and I plan to complete their 2 year credit program then begin applying for MBA with hopes of getting into a M7 then moving into IB as an associate
CB > MBA @ M7 > IB
Goodluck !
