Advice on Follow-up

I found an email for an MD from my school at a mid-market firm (Jefferies, Lazard, Moelis) and emailed him yesterday saying I was interested in full-time opportunities. He replied within a few hours and forwarded my information on to both an SVP in his group and two contacts in HR.

Unfortunately, he seems to have detached my resume when he forwarded those emails.

My question is this, If I don't hear back when should I make contact again? Email or phone? And finally should I call him directly or one of the more junior people to which the email was cc'd (even though I presume my resume was not passed to them.)

First, you don't need to send your resume in your opening email to an alum - that's why he detached it. The fact that he responded and forwarded your resume on is definitely a good sign - ignore the resume deletion. I would also agree with Advisory88 to watch throwing the term middle market around.

Regarding your question, I would agree that you need to be patient, but definitely follow up. Being that it is the middle of the week and quickly coming to a close, I would hold tight and look to reach back out (if you don't hear from anyone first, that is) sometime early middle of next week - maybe Tuesday-ish or so. I would probably send a follow-up email, but the phone call would be fine as well (I am assuming that he either gave you his # or it was in his signature when he responded) - essentially, go with whichever method of communication you are most comfortable with and don't overthink it. Good luck.
